Jack Bowman (curling)
Benny Jack Bowman (July 4, 1932 – August 1, 2022) was an American politician from the state of Tennessee who served in the Tennessee House of Representatives from 1967 to 1976. A Republican Party (United States), Republican, he represented Roane County, Tennessee. Residing in Harriman, Tennessee, he was a businessman and farmer. Bowman was of the Southern Baptist faith and was a life-long member of Caney Ford Baptist Church. He died on August 1, 2022, at the age of 90. Kingston is a city in and the county seat of Roane County, Tennessee, United States. This city is thirty-six miles southwest of Knoxville. It had a population of 5,934 at the 2010 United States census, and is included in the Harriman Micropolitan Statistical Area. Kingston is adjacent to Watts Bar Lake. History Kingston has its roots in Fort Southwest Point, which was built just south of present-day Kingston in 1792. At the time, Southwest Point was on the fringe of the legal settlement area for Euro-Americans. A Cherokee village, headed by Chief Tollunteeskee, was situated just across the river, at what is now Rockwood. In 1805, Colonel Return J. Meigs, who operated out of Southwest Point, was appointed Cherokee Agent, effectively moving the agency from the Tellico Blockhouse to Southwest Point. Harriman is a city located primarily in Roane County, Tennessee, with a small extension into Morgan County. The population of Harriman was 6,350 at the time of the 2010 census. Harriman is included in the Knoxville, Tennessee Metropolitan Statistical Area. Geography Harriman is located at (35.928585, -84.555700). The city is situated along the physiographic boundary between the Tennessee Valley region and the Cumberland Plateau region, with the Plateau—namely its Walden Ridge escarpment—rising several hundred feet above the city to the west. Roane County is a county of the U.S. state of Tennessee. As of the 2020 census, the population was 53,404. Its county seat is Kingston. Roane County is included in the Knoxville, TN Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Roane County was formed in 1801, and named for Archibald Roane, the second Governor of Tennessee.
