Jack Blain
Jack Blain (born 21 February 2000) is a Scottish rugby union player for Edinburgh Rugby in the United Rugby Championship. Blain's primary position is wing. Rugby Union career Professional career Blain made his debut for Edinburgh on 2 March 2019. As well as being signed to Edinburgh, Blain also represents Heriot's Rugby in the Super 6 tournament. Wing (rugby Union)
In the game of rugby union, there are 15 players on each team, comprising eight forwards (wearing jerseys numbered 1–8) and seven backs (numbered 9–15). In addition, there may be up to eight replacement players "on the bench", numbered 16–23. Players are not restricted to a single position, although they generally specialise in just one or two that suit their skills and body types. Players that play multiple positions are called "utility players". Forwards compete for the ball in scrums and Line-out (rugby union), line-outs and are generally bigger and stronger than the backs. Props push in the scrums, while the hooker tries to secure the ball for their team by "hooking" it back with their heel. Edinburgh Rugby
Edinburgh Rugby (formerly Edinburgh Reivers, Edinburgh Gunners) is one of the two professional rugby union teams from Scotland. The club competes in the United Rugby Championship, along with the Glasgow Warriors, its oldest rival. Edinburgh plays most of its home games at Edinburgh Rugby Stadium. The original Edinburgh District team played the first ever inter-district match against Glasgow District in 1872, winning the match 3–0. The amateur district team was reformed with professionalism, as Edinburgh Rugby, in 1996 to compete in the Heineken Cup, its best performance coming in the 2011–12 season, when the club reached the semi-final but lost out narrowly to Ulster, 22–19. Scotland National Under-20 Rugby Union Team
The Scotland national under-20 rugby union team participates in the World Rugby Under 20 Championship. Their highest placement is 5th which they achieved in the 2017 World Rugby Under 20 Championship. The U20 side also compete in the Six Nations Under 20s Championship. Both tournaments began in 2008 and replaced the Under 19 or Under 21 championships. The World Rugby Under 20 Championship was known as the IRB Junior World Championship up to 2014. Prior to this, there were U19 and U21 tournaments for the World Rugby Championship. There was also a U21 tournament for the Six Nations from 2004. The Under 20 side is now the pinnacle of Scottish Rugby's age-grade system. United Rugby Championship
The United Rugby Championship (URC) is an annual rugby union competition involving professional teams from Ireland, Italy, Scotland, South Africa, and Wales. The current name was adopted in 2021 when the league expanded to include four South African teams previously from the SANZAR Super Rugby competition. The league is one of the three major professional leagues in Europe (along with the English Premiership Rugby, Premiership and the French Top 14), the most successful teams from which go forward to compete in the European Rugby Champions Cup. Since 2022–23, despite the name, South African teams have been eligible to qualify for European competition, and one South African place is guaranteed. Heriot's Rugby Club, also known as Heriot's FP, is one of Scotland's senior rugby football clubs in the Scottish Rugby Union, whose Men's 1st XV play in the FOSROC . The women play in The club's home is in the Goldenacre area in Edinburgh.Bath, p89 The rugby club, founded in 1890, was originally intended for former pupils of George Heriot's School, but is now an open club, welcoming rugby players of all levels. Player development starts with a highly successful Mini/Midi Section and moves onto the senior levels. The club has coaching staff that are very well respected in Scottish rugby. Heriot's Rugby club are the only Scottish club never to have been relegated from the first division. Super 6 (rugby Union)
The Super 6 is a professional league for Scottish rugby union clubs, which began in 2019. As of 2022, the league consists of three competitions; * FOSROC Super6 Sprint Season - running from April to June, involving a single round robin, followed by two further matches to decide final positions; * FOSROC Super 6 Pro-Alignment Match - a one-off representative game between the best players from the 'Edinburgh' affiliated clubs and 'Glasgow' affiliated clubs, similar in some ways to State of Origin; * FOSROC Super6 Championship, the primary competition of the three, involving a full double round robin, and a series of play-offs. The league is designed to bridge the gap between the amateur grade and the fully professional United Rugby Championship teams. Six clubs contest the league.
