Jack Allen (footballer Born 1903)
John William Alcroft Allen (31 January 1903 – 19 November 1957) was an English professional football forward and outside left, who played in the Football League for Leeds United, Brentford, Sheffield Wednesday, Newcastle United, Bristol Rovers and Gateshead. Career Born in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, he played for his home town club Newcastle United between 1931 and 1934. He played up front as a striker and managed to score 41 goals in 90 appearances for Newcastle. Perhaps the most important of those goals were scored in the 1932 FA Cup Final, in which Newcastle beat Arsenal 2–1 with both goals coming from Allen. Allen is best remembered for his time at Sheffield Wednesday where he scored 33 goals in both 1928–29 and 1929–30 to help the Owls clinch back-to-back Division One titles. Newburn
Newburn is a semi rural parish, former electoral ward and former urban district in western Newcastle upon Tyne, North East England. Situated on the North bank of the River Tyne, it is built rising up the valley from the river. It is situated approximately from the city centre, east of Hexham and south south west of Morpeth. In the 2001 census, the population was given as 9,301, increasing to 9,536 at the 2011 Census. Newburn is in the Newcastle upon Tyne district of Tyne and Wear and is part of the parliamentary constituency of Newcastle upon Tyne North. Historically, the area was larger than Newcastle upon Tyne as it was the most eastern fordable point of the River Tyne. The area has Roman remains, and a Norman church dating from 1070 AD. Ralph Allen (footballer)
Ralph Slack Littlewood Allen (30 June 1906 – 9 May 1981) was an English professional footballer. He played as a forward and he was born in Newburn, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Northumberland. Career Ralph Allen was playing for Dipton United when signed by Fulham in 1928. After 8 goals in 16 games for the Cottagers, he moved to Brentford in March 1931 for a fee of £275. He failed to make much of an impression on the first team during three seasons with the Bees, but did score heavily in the reserve team's London Combination title wins in 1931–32 and 1932–33, also captaining the team. He left the club to move to Charlton Athletic in October 1934 for £650. At Charlton he averaged almost a goal a game, scoring 47 goals in only 52 league appearances. He still holds the Charlton record for league goals in one season, a feat made more impressive by the fact that he didn't join them until October. The 1931–32 FA Cup was the 57th season of the world's oldest association football, football single-elimination tournament, cup competition, the Football Association Challenge Cup, commonly known as the FA Cup. Newcastle United F.C., Newcastle United won the competition for the third time, beating Arsenal F.C., Arsenal 2–1 in the 1932 FA Cup Final, final at Wembley Stadium (1923), Wembley. The Football Association Challenge Cup, more commonly known as the FA Cup, is an annual knockout football competition in men's domestic English football. First played during the 1871–72 season, it is the oldest national football competition in the world. It is organised by and named after The Football Association (The FA). Since 2015, it has been known as The Emirates FA Cup after its headline sponsor. A concurrent women's tournament is also held, the Women's FA Cup. Football League First Division
The Football League First Division was a division of the Football League in England from 1888 until 2004. It was the top division in the English football league system from the season 1888–89 until 1991–92, a century in which the First Division's winning club became English men's football champions. The First Division contained between 12 and 24 clubs, playing each other home and away in a double round robin. The competition was based on two points for a win from 1888 until the increase to three points for a win in 1981.
