Jaakko Laajava
Jaakko Tapani Laajava (born 23 June 1947 in Joensuu) has served as Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs for Finland from 1 April 2010. Prior to that, he served as Ambassador to the United Kingdom in 2005. Career Between 2001 and 2004, Laajava worked as the political under-secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Laajava has been an Ambassador in the United States in 1996–2001. He moved there as Deputy Director General of the Political Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and as Head of the 1990–1996. He was Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Ambassador to the Embassy of Finland in 1986–1990. For the first time in 1971, he was employed by the Foreign Service. In the 1970s, he worked as a broadcaster, assistant secretary and secretary of state in Switzerland, Poland, Yugoslavia and Spain. The National Union of University Students in Finland ( fi, Suomen ylioppilaskuntien liitto (SYL) ry, sv, Finlands studentkårers förbund (FSF) rf) is the largest national organisation providing benefits and services for students in Finland. Its members, including student unions and one student body, consists of over 140,000 bachelor's and master's degree students as well as postgraduates. It was established in 1921. The Middle East nuclear weapon free zone (MENWFZ) is a proposed agreement similar to other nuclear-weapon-free zones. Steps towards the establishment of such a zone began in the 1960s led to a joint declaration by Egypt and Iran in 1974 which resulted in a General Assembly resolution (broadened in 1990 through the Mubarak Initiative to cover all weapons of mass destruction). Following the 1995 NPT Review Conference, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) held a series of meetings involving experts and academics to consider ways to advance this process. Such a zone would strengthen the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), would help to promote global nuclear disarmament and would also help the Middle East peace as substantial confidence-building measures. Joensuu (; krl, Jovensuu; ) is a city and municipality in North Karelia, Finland, located on the northern shore of Lake Pyhäselkä (northern part of Lake Saimaa) at the mouth of the Pielinen River (''Pielisjoki'').
