Július Torma
Július Torma (7 March 1922, Budapest – 23 October 1991, Prague) was a Slovaks, Slovak boxing, boxer competing for Czechoslovakia. He won the gold medal at the Olympic Games in 1948 for Czechoslovakia in the category up to 67 kg. He competed in three consecutive Summer Olympics (1948, 1952 and 1956). Torma defeated Hank Herring of the United States in the 1948 final. Torma also competed as a welterweight in 1952, losing in the quarterfinals; and in 1956, as a Middleweight. He was born in Budapest and died in Prague. Hank Herring
Horace H. "Hank" Herring (June 19, 1922 – May 18, 1999) was an American boxing, boxer. Herring was the Welterweight Silver Medalist at the 1948 London Olympic Games. Herring lost in the final to Július Torma of Czechoslovakia. Early life and military service Herring was born in St. Petersburg, Florida. He joined the United States Navy, where he achieved the rank of steward chief petty officer. He was stationed at Naval Station San Diego, California and was one of the first U.S. Navy enlisted sailors to participate in the Olympic Games. Howard Richter
Howard Richter (born 18 May 1935) is an Australian businessman and former Olympic boxer. Sporting career Richter was introduced to boxing as a method of rehabilitation following a severe accident when he was eight years old. He was struck by a milk truck and spent six weeks in a coma. He later also broke his neck playing rugby league. Richter competed in the men's middleweight event at the 1956 Summer Olympics. He lost in the first round to 1948 welterweight gold medallist Julius Torma on a points decision. Politics Richter was Queensland state president of the Young Country Party in 1959, in which capacity he escorted Princess Alexandra on a royal tour. Zygmunt Chychła
Zygmunt Chychła (5 November 1926 – 26 September 2009) was a Polish boxer. He won the first post-World War II Olympic gold medal for Poland. Career In 1939 he began training at the Polish boxing club '' Gedania'', having started boxing at the age 12. During the war he lost his Gdańsk citizenship and was compulsorily conscripted into the Wehrmacht in 1944. In France he deserted and joined the 2nd Polish Army, led by general Władysław Anders, in Italy. He returned to Poland in 1946. In 1947, he made his debut with the national boxing team of Poland, led by famous coach Feliks Stamm. He started at the 1948 London Olympic Games and reached the quarterfinal. In 1951 he won the European Amateur Boxing Championships in Milan. He was chosen the best Polish Sportspersonality of the Year in a Plebiscite of the ''Sport Review''.
