Jørgen Von Ansbach
Jørgen von Ansbach (ca. 1510 – ca. 1590) was a German-Norwegian timber merchant and mayor of Skien (southern part of Norway). He immigrated from Germany to Skien around 1540. He came as a mining administrator at a time when King Christian III of Denmark tried without success to establish a mining industry in Bratsberg (now Telemark). He subsequently became a pioneer in the timber industry in the district as an owner of several sawmills and a major timber merchant. He organized efforts to make water flows from the Hjellevannet on the lower water basin in the Skien watercourse (''Skiensvassdraget'') to the Skien River (''Skienselva'') so that water could drive recovery saws. He established sawmills and the timber trade rose sharply in Skien. He was cited as mayor of Skien in 1568, 1570 and 1578. Anne Clausdatter
Anne Clausdatter, also known as Anne Arnold and ''Anna Clausdatter'' (born 5 June 1659 in Skien, died 11 April 1713 at Borgestad Manor) was a Norwegian landowner; owner of Borgestad Manor in Skien, one of the largest estates of Bratsberg. Anne Clausdatter was descended from the leading land owners and timber merchants of the Grenland area, and was married first to Stig Andersen Tønsberg (died 1690), and then to General Johan Arnold (died 1709). Legacy Today, she is remembered i.a. as the title character of the poem '' Stolt Anne'' (''ca.'' 1700) by Hans Paus, who was married to her first cousin. The poem portrays her as a generous person who was well liked by the population of Telemark. The poem is also notable for being the first written in dialect in Norway, and 12 verses were included in '' Norske Folkeviser'' (1853) by Magnus Brostrup Landstad. References * J. L. Øystein Rian (born 23 February 1945, in Lillehammer) is a Norwegian historian who specializes in the history of Denmark-Norway from 1536 to 1814, particularly its political, social and religious history. Christian Cornelius Paus
Christian Cornelius Paus (18 October 1800 – 8 April 1879) was a Norwegian lawyer, civil servant and politician. He was Governor of Bratsberg (now Telemark) and a Member of the Norwegian Parliament. Background He was born at Skien in Telemark, Norway. He belonged to both the Norwegian patrician Paus and Plesner families. He was the son of ship-owner Ole Paus and Johanne Plesner (in her first marriage married Ibsen), and was the uncle of playwright Henrik Ibsen. He was both the half-brother of Henrik Ibsen's father, Knud Ibsen, and the first cousin of Henrik Ibsen's mother, Marichen Altenburg.
