Jørgen Johannes Havig
Jørgen Johannes Havig (July 31, 1808 – January 19, 1883) was a Norwegian bailiff (''lensmann''), farm owner, and politician. He is regarded as a driving force behind the founding of Namsos, which was established as a " small seaport" ( no, ladested or ) in 1845. Havig also served several terms as a Storting representative. Havig was born in Vemundvik, the son of the bailiff Johan Havig, and he performed his father's duties while he was ill. Already at the age of 12, he was employed at the stipendiary magistrate (''sorenskriver'') Elias Frederik Hetting's office, and he became a formal assistant at his father's bailiff's office at the age of 16. He never received formal schooling, but was taught by his father (who was trained as a teacher), the attorney Søren Reiersen Thornæs, and the dean Peter Christian Boye, and he is said to have been particularly talented in mathematics, astronomy, and French. Vemundvik
Vemundvik is a village in Namsos municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. The village is located along the shore, about north of the Namsos (town), town of Namsos and about east of the village of Ramsvika, Trøndelag, Ramsvika. Vemundvik Church is located in the village. The village of Vemundvik was the administrative centre of the old Vemundvik (municipality), municipality of Vemundvik from 1838 until 1941, when the municipal administration moved to the nearby town of Namsos (town), Namsos. Nord-Trøndelag (; "North Trøndelag") was a county constituting the northern part of the present-day Trøndelag county in Norway. The county was established in 1804 when the old Trondhjems amt was divided into two: Nordre Trondhjems amt and Søndre Trondhjems amt. In 2016, the two county councils voted to merge (back) into a single county on 1 January 2018. As of 1 January 2014, the county had 135,142 inhabitants, making it the country's fourth-least populated county. Medal For Outstanding Civic Service
The Medal for Outstanding Civic Service or ''Medaljen for Borgerdåd'' is the second highest ranked Norwegian medal. In spring 2004 the medal ceased to be awarded. The medal was first established by Royal Resolution April 10, 1819 and later altered by Royal Resolution April 13, 1844. It was awarded by the cabinet meeting presided over by the King after a recommendation by the Norwegian Ministry of Justice. It is divided into two grades: the first class is in gold and the second class is in silver. Overhalla
Overhalla is a municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is part of the Namdalen region. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Ranemsletta (also called ''Overhalla''). Other villages include Melen, Skage, Skogmo, Svalia, and Øysletta. The population is concentrated in the relatively broad Namsen river valley at the center. Namsen
or is one of the longest rivers in Trøndelag county, in the central part of Norway. The long river flows through the municipalities of Røyrvik, Namsskogan, Grong, Overhalla, and Namsos before emptying into the Namsenfjorden. The river is the namesake for the whole Namdalen region. The river traditionally has been used for floating timber down from the forests to the town of Namsos, where the sawmills were located. Today, parts of the Namsen are regulated by several dams. Location The river begins in springs in Børgefjell National Park, just over the border in Nordland county. This water feeds the large lake ''Store Namsvatnet''. Namdalen ( sma, Nååmesjevuemie) is a Districts of Norway, traditional district in the central part of Norway, consisting of the municipalities Namsos, Grong, Overhalla, Røyrvik, Nærøysund, Høylandet, Flatanger, Lierne, Leka, Norway, Leka, and Namsskogan, all in Trøndelag county. Fosnes is a former municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1838 until its dissolution in 2020 when it was merged into Namsos Municipality. It was part of the Namdalen region. The administrative centre of the municipality was the village of Dun on the island of Jøa. Other villages include Salsnes and Nufsfjord. At the time of its dissolution in 2020, the municipality was the 199th largest by area out of the 422 municipalities in Norway.
