Jón Ólafsson of Grunnavík (''Jón Ólafsson frá Grunnavík'', also known as ''Jón Grunnvíkingur'' or ''Grunnavíkur-Jón'', 1705–1779) was an Icelandic scholar. Originally from Grunnavík, Westfjords, northwestern Iceland, he was active in Copenhagen, where he served as assistant to Árni Magnússon. He is the author of an Icelandic dictionary and a 1732 ''Runologia'', a treatise on runology. As in the fire of Copenhagen of 1728, the original manuscript of the '' Heiðarvíga saga'' was lost along with a recent copy made by Jón Grunnvíkingur, he wrote down a summary of the saga from memory, which is the only form in which the saga's contents survive today. Jón Ólafsson (20 March 1850 – 11 July 1916) was an Icelandic editor, journalist, and poet. He was the half-brother of Páll Ólafsson. He became a journalist in Iceland in 1868, but due to disobedience to the authorities, he had to emigrate to North America in 1872. Jón Þór Ólafsson (born 13 March 1977) is an Icelandic politician. A business administration student at the University of Iceland, he was elected to the Althing in the 2013 Icelandic parliamentary election Parliamentary elections were held in Iceland on 27 April 2013. Fifteen parties contested the elections, compared to just seven in the previous elections. The result was a victory for the two centre-right opposition parties, the Independence Party ....
