Jægersborg Barracks
Jægersborg Barracks ( Danish: ), also known as , is a former military facility located on Jægersborg Allé in Gentofte in the northern suburbs of Copenhagen, Denmark. It was converted into housing in 2010. History Christian IV constructed a hunting lodge named Ibstrup at the site in 1620. It was later renamed Jægersborg by Christian BII. The building was partly used as barracks from 1818. The current buildings, or simply , was built in 1734-38 by royal architect Lauritz de Thurah for the royal hunting dogs, horses and as residential quarters for officials associated with the royal hunts. The buildings replaced a group of buildings that were located immediately to the west of House. was at the same time replaced by the Hermitage Hunting Lodge and the old building was demolished in 1760. Jægersborg is a suburban neighbourhood in Gentofte Municipality, some 12 km north of central Copenhagen, Denmark. History The whole area was from at least 1401 a royal estate known as Ibstrup (the earliest sources refer to it as Jepstorp). The nearest village was Mellerup located midway between Ibstrup and Ordrup. Its land came under Ibstrup when it disappeared in the middle of the 17th century. The Ibstrup estate was since Queen Margaret's day used for royal hunts, although King Frederick II was the first to establish a royal residence at the site. In 1611, Christian IV replaced it with a new building, ''Ibstrup Slot'', in Dutch Renaissance style surrounded by moats. King Frederick III gave the property to his consort, Queen Sophie Amalie. Christian V, an enthusiast for hunting, renamed the house Jægersborg. Frederick V Of Denmark
Frederick V (Danish and Norwegian: ''Frederik V''; 31 March 1723 – 14 January 1766) was King of Denmark–Norway and Duke of Schleswig-Holstein from 6 August 1746 until his death in 1766. He was the son of Christian VI of Denmark and Sophie Magdalene of Brandenburg-Kulmbach. Although the personal influence of Frederick was limited, his reign was marked by the progress of commerce and trade, and art and science prospered under his reign. Unlike his parents who were deeply devoted to Pietism, Frederick grew into a hedonist. As regent, he took part in the conduct of government by attending council meetings, but he was afflicted by alcoholism and most of his rule was dominated by able ministers who were influenced by the ideas of the Age of Enlightenment.
