Jyväskylä–Pieksämäki Railway
The Jyväskylä–Pieksämäki railway ( fi, Jyväskylä–Pieksämäki-rata, sv, Jyväskylä–Pieksämäki-banan) is a 5 ft and 1520 mm gauge railways, 1,524 mm (5 ft) railway in Finland, running between the Jyväskylä railway station, Jyväskylä and Pieksämäki railway station, Pieksämäki stations. History The decision to build the line was made in 1912, and the most difficult and expensive of the route options was chosen. The decision was influenced by the experience gained from the construction of the curved and hilly Haapamäki–Jyväskylä railway, which proved inadequate for the growing train traffic. The line became straightforward - plans to bypass Leppälahti and Pönttövuori were abandoned. In turn, the population centers of Hankasalmi and Kankainen were bypassed, which eventually led to the creation of the station villages of Hankasalmi, Sauvamäki and Venetmäki. InterCity
InterCity (commonly abbreviated ''IC'' on timetables and tickets) is the classification applied to certain long-distance passenger train services in Europe. Such trains (in contrast to regional, local, or commuter trains) generally call at major stations only. An international variant of the InterCity trains are the EuroCity (EC) trains which consist of high-standard coaches and are run by a variety of operators. History The Inter-City Rapid Transit Company was an Ohio interurban company, which began operations in 1930 as it had purchased its route from the Northern Ohio Traction & Light Company. It remained in operation till 1940. The use of ''Inter-City'' was reborn in the United Kingdom: A daily train of that name was introduced in 1950, running between the cities of London and Birmingham.
