Justus De Verwer
Justus de Verwer (Amsterdam, c. 1626 - Amsterdam, 12 November 1689) was a Dutch painter and illustrator from the period of the Golden Age. De Verwer was the son and pupil of Abraham de Verwer and followed him in style and theme. He produced primarily marine art. From 1651 to 1656 he was employed by the Dutch East India Company and traveled to the East Indies. Then he settled in Amsterdam, where he married Fijtje Caspers in 1659. Justus De Verwer - Pier With Ships
Justus (died on 10 November between 627 and 631) was the fourth Archbishop of Canterbury. He was sent from Italy to England by Pope Pope Gregory I, Gregory the Great, on a mission to Christianization, Christianize the Anglo-Saxons from their native Anglo-Saxon paganism, paganism, probably arriving with the second group of missionaries despatched in 601. Justus became the first Bishop of Rochester in 604, and attended a church council in Paris in 614. Following the death of King Æthelberht of Kent in 616, Justus was forced to flee to Gaul, but was reinstated in his diocese the following year. In 624 Justus became Archbishop of Canterbury, overseeing the despatch of missionaries to Northumbria. After his death he was revered as a saint, and had a shrine in St Augustine's Abbey, Canterbury. The United East India Company ( nl, Verenigde Oostindische Compagnie, the VOC) was a chartered company established on the 20th March 1602 by the States General of the Netherlands amalgamating existing companies into the first joint-stock company in the world, granting it a 21-year monopoly to carry out trade activities in Asia. Shares in the company could be bought by any resident of the United Provinces and then subsequently bought and sold in open-air secondary markets (one of which became the Amsterdam Stock Exchange).
