Justus De Goede
Justus de Goede is a South African politician who served as a Member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature between 2014 and 2019. He was a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa from 2013 to 2014. De Goede is a member of the Democratic Alliance. Career Parliament On 1 December 2013, he was appointed to the National Assembly of South Africa to replace Ian Davidson as a member of the Democratic Alliance. De Goede also succeeded Davidson as Shadow Minister of International Relations and Cooperation. Gauteng Provincial Legislature
The Gauteng Provincial Legislature is the legislature of the South African province of Gauteng. It is a unicameral body of 73 members elected every five years. The current legislature, the sixth, was elected on 8 May 2019 and has an African National Congress majority of 37 members. The legislature is housed in Johannesburg City Hall in central Johannesburg. The Gauteng Provincial Legislature, like the eight other provincial legislatures in South Africa, was created on 27 April 1994 by the Interim Constitution of South Africa, which dissolved the four original provinces (and their provincial councils) and created the nine current provinces. Ian Ormiston Davidson (born 1 January 1951) is a former Member of the South African Parliament from the Democratic Alliance. He served as the Shadow Minister of International Relations and Co-operations from 2012 to 2013. He left parliament in 2014. Education After matriculating from Parktown Boys' High School, Davidson went to the University of the Witwatersrand where he studied law. He has recently completed a Master of Law at the University of Stellenbosch. Politics Davidson joined the Progressive Party in 1969. He served as Johannesburg city councillor from 1982 to 1994. Stevens Mokgalapa (born 9 April 1977) is a South African politician who served as the Mayor of Tshwane from 2019 to 2020. A former member of the Democratic Alliance (DA), he served as a Member of the National Assembly from 2009 to 2019. It consists of four hundred members who are elected every five years using a party-list proportional representation system where half of the members are elected proportionally from nine provincial lists and the remaining half from national lists so as to restore proportionality. 2014 South African General Election
General elections were held in South Africa on 7 May 2014, to elect a new National Assembly and new provincial legislatures in each province. It was the fifth election held in South Africa under conditions of universal adult suffrage since the end of the apartheid era in 1994, and also the first held since the death of Nelson Mandela. It was also the first time that South African expatriates were allowed to vote in a South African national election. The National Assembly election was won by the African National Congress (ANC), but with a reduced majority of 62.1%, down from 65.9% in the 2009 election. The official opposition Democratic Alliance (DA) increased its share of the vote from 16.7% to 22.2%, while the newly formed Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) obtained 6.4% of the vote. The 2019 Gauteng provincial election was held on 8 May 2019, concurrently with the 2019 South African general election, to elect the 73 members of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature.
