Justinian Oxenham
Justinian Oxenham Imperial Service Order, ISO (23 April 186027 March 1932) was a senior Australian public servant. He was Departmental secretary, Secretary of the Postmaster-General's Department from January 1911 until December 1923. Life and career Oxenham was born in Warwick, Queensland, on 23 April 1860. In the year of Australia's federation, Oxenham was appointed as Chief Clerk of the Postmaster-General's Department. In January 1911 he was promoted to Secretary, heading the Postmaster-General's Department. In the position, he represented the Commonwealth at the International Postal Conference in Madrid in February 1921. Oxenham retired from the Australian Public Service, Commonwealth Public Service in 1923. On 27 March 1932, Oxenham died at home in Charles Street Kew, Melbourne. Imperial Service Order
The Imperial Service Order was established by King Edward VII in August 1902. It was awarded on retirement to the administration and clerical staff of the Civil Service throughout the British Empire for long and meritorious service. Normally a person must have served for 25 years to become eligible, but this might be shortened to 16 years for those serving in unhealthy climates abroad. There is one class: Companion. Both men and women are eligible, and recipients of this order are entitled to use the post-nominal letters 'ISO'. History The new order was announced in the 1902 Coronation Honours list published on 26 June 1902, on the day scheduled for the Coronation of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra. The Postmaster-General's Department (PMG) was a department of the Australian federal government, established at Federation in 1901, whose responsibilities included the provision of postal and telegraphic services throughout Australia. It was abolished in December 1975 and replaced by the Postal and Telecommunications Department. Boroondara General Cemetery
Boroondara General Cemetery, often referred to as Kew cemetery, is one of the oldest cemeteries in Victoria, Australia, created in the tradition of the Victorian garden cemetery. The cemetery, located in Kew, a suburb of Melbourne, is listed as a heritage place on the Victorian Heritage Register. Sir Harry Percy Brown (28 December 18785 June 1967) was a senior Australia public servant. He was Director-General of the Postmaster-General's Department from 1923 until 1939. Life and career Harry Brown was born in South Hylton, County Durham, England on 28 December 1878 to Sarah Emma and George Brown.
