Justin Wadsworth
Justin Wadsworth (born August 14, 1968) is an American former cross-country skier. He competed at the 1994 Winter Olympics, the 1998 Winter Olympics and the 2002 Winter Olympics. He is also known for an act of sportsmanship at the 2018 Winter Olympics. Biography Wadsworth was born in La Jolla, San Diego in 1968. He competed in nine events at three Winter Olympics in cross-country skiing. While at a skiing competition, he met his future wife Beckie Scott. Wadsworth later became a coach, and moved to Canmore, Alberta with his wife. In 2010 in Canada, he became the head coach of the Canadian cross-country ski team. At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Wadsworth was the head coach of the Canadian cross-country skiing team. During the men's sprint event, Russian skier Anton Gafarov broke a ski as he was approaching the finish line. Wadsworth witnessed the incident and gave Gafarov a spare ski from Canada's stock. Competitive cross-country skiing encompasses a variety of race formats and course lengths. Rules of cross-country skiing are sanctioned by the International Ski Federation and by various national organizations. International competitions include the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships, the FIS Cross-Country World Cup, and at the Winter Olympic Games. Such races occur over homologated, groomed courses designed to support classic (in-track) and freestyle events, where the skiers may employ skate skiing. It also encompasses cross-country ski marathon events, sanctioned by the Worldloppet Ski Federation, and cross-country ski orienteering events, sanctioned by the International Orienteering Federation. Cross-country Skiing At The 2014 Winter Olympics – Men's Sprint
The men's freestyle sprint cross-country skiing competition in the free technique at the 2014 Sochi Olympics took place on 11 February at Laura Biathlon & Ski Complex. Ola Vigen Hattestad won the gold medal. Qualification An athlete with a maximum of 100 FIS distance points (the A standard) will be allowed to compete in both or one of the events (sprint/distance). An athlete with a maximum 120 FIS sprint points will be allowed to compete in the sprint event and 10 km for women or 15 km for men provided their distance points do not exceed 300 FIS points. NOC's who do not have any athlete meeting the A standard can enter one competitor of each sex (known as the basic quota) in only 10 km classical event for women or 15 km classical event for men.
