Love And Hate In Dub
''Love and Hate in Dub'' is remix album by industrial metal band Godflesh released on 24 June 1997 through Earache Records. The remixed songs are sourced from their 1996 album ''Songs of Love and Hate'', and they adopt a more ambient, dub and drum and bass flavor. Background and content Originally, Godflesh frontman Justin Broadrick wanted to get hip hop's top producers to remix the tracks for ''Love and Hate in Dub'' (which was tentatively titled ''Songs of Love and Hate in Dub''). This ultimately proved too expensive. As a result and unlike most remix albums, all tracks on ''Love and Hate in Dub'' were made and reworked in-house, done by Godflesh's two members, Broadrick and G. C. Green. Broadrick saw ''Love and Hate in Dub'' as a sort of response to ''Songs of Love and Hate'', which he found "flat" in comparison. Regarding the remix album, Broadrick said: According to Broadrick, the overall fan consensus was that ''Love and Hate in Dub'' was a step up from its source stud ...

Songs Of Love And Hate (Godflesh Album)
''Songs of Love and Hate'' is the fourth studio album by English industrial metal band Godflesh. Released on 20 August 1996 through Earache Records, it is the band's first album to feature live drums, played by drummer Bryan Mantia, and a more traditional heavy metal sound, generally lacking the experimental and mechanical elements of previous releases. The cover is a photograph of Cancer Alley, Louisiana. An accompanying dub-inspired remix album, ''Love and Hate in Dub'', was released in 1997. Both records were reissued by Earache in 2009. Music and composition The choice to replace Godflesh's signature drum machines with Bryan Mantia as a human drummer stemmed from Justin Broadrick's growing dissatisfaction with the limitation of mechanical percussion. After initially making ''Songs of Love and Hate'' with machines, Broadrick decided that there was a lack of dynamic range and groove. About the search for the proper drummer, Broadrick said, "The aim was to get a drummer who ...

Crush My Soul
"Crush My Soul" is a song by industrial metal band Godflesh, taken from the album '' Selfless'' (1994). It was released in 1995 by Earache Records on 12" vinyl and CD. The single's two remixes were also included on the ''Selfless/Merciless'' compilation released on Earache Records in 1996. Music and critical reception Regarding the song "Crush My Soul", Godflesh frontman Justin Broadrick said: Richard Fontenoy, a contributor to '' Rough Guide to Rock'', stated in the book that "Godflesh's breakthrough into metal acceptance has a tendency towards mechanical, headbanging sameness, though the excellent 'Crush My Soul' is based around an asthmatically weaving sample loop." Ned Raggett of AllMusic wrote, "Songs like 'Anything Is Mine' and 'Crush My Soul', the latter infused with a strange breathing rhythm loop, or so it sounds, capture this version of major-label Godflesh pretty well, both unpleasant enough to keep the wimps away and accessible enough to win over the more open-minde ...

Selfless (album)
''Selfless'' is the third studio album by British industrial metal band Godflesh. It was released on 26 September 1994 in Europe and on 18 October 1994 through Earache and Columbia Records. Being the band's major-label debut, the record features a more conventional and rock-oriented sound compared to Godflesh's previous releases. It spawned two singles, " Xnoybis" and " Crush My Soul". The music video for the latter was directed by photographer Andres Serrano. At the 2018 Roadburn Festival, ''Selfless'' was performed live in its near entirety for the first time. "Go Spread Your Wings", the album's 23-minute closing track, was substituted with "Messiah" and "Merciless", two songs recorded in the same sessions as ''Selfless''. Background and composition Since ''Selfless'' and its preceding EP '' Merciless'' (1994) saw Godflesh with a major record label, the band was assigned a professional to do final mastering. Bob Ludwig was called in to enhance the pre-existing masters. Godf ...

Merciless (EP)
''Merciless'' is an EP released by industrial metal band Godflesh in 1994 through Earache and Columbia. In 1996, the EP was reissued along with the '' Selfless'' (1994) album as the compilation ''Selfless/Merciless''. Content Recorded from 1991 to 1993, ''Merciless'' comprises one rerecorded song, two previously unreleased songs, and a remixed song. The EP's title track, recorded in December 1993, is an updated version of a 1986 Fall of Because song. "Blind" and "Unworthy", tracks 2 and 3 respectively, are both labeled as "Biomechanical Mix" in the EP's liner notes, though no original versions are publicly available. This is the same tag that Godflesh frontman Justin Broadrick applied to the remixes he made for Pantera in 1993. Track 4, "Flowers", is a stripped-down remix, or "demix", of the song "Don't Bring Me Flowers" from Godflesh's 1992 studio album, ''Pure''. After the EP was mastered and completed, Columbia brought in Bob Ludwig to refine the release. Broadrick said Ludwig ...

Pure (Godflesh Album)
''Pure'' is the second studio album by English industrial metal band Godflesh. It was released on 13 April 1992 through Earache Records. Though originally labeled only as industrial metal, the album has since been recognised as one of the earliest post-metal releases. Musically, ''Pure'' is rhythmically mechanical and features harsh guitars, with protracted songs and an abundance of deliberate repetition. Like much of Godflesh's music, it is regarded as particularly heavy and aggressive, and these elements helped it gain critical acclaim. ''Pure'' was supported by the promotional single of and music video for "Mothra", and the 1991 EP '' Cold World'' was recorded in the same sessions as the album. In 2013, Godflesh performed the majority of ''Pure'' live at Roadburn. Despite dissatisfaction with the production quality of the album, Godflesh frontman Justin Broadrick considers it one of the band's most honest releases. In 2012, ''Fact'' ranked ''Pure'' as the 64th best album of the ...

Cold World (EP)
''Cold World'' is the third EP by industrial metal band Godflesh, released in late 1991 through Relativity Records. It was recorded and mixed during September 1991 as part of the ''Pure'' (1992) sessions. The original EP was discontinued, but, in 1996, it was reissued along with the " Slateman" single on one disc through Earache as the compilation ''Slateman/Cold World''. Later, in August 2009, this was reissued as part of a triple-CD package which also included the EP ''Slavestate'' (1991) and the band's second album, ''Pure''. Critical reception ''Cold World'' received lukewarm reviews. Writing for AllMusic, Ned Raggett considered the EP a largely unremarkable continuation of the band's previous EP, ''Slavestate''. He said the EP's title track would have benefited from being included on ''Pure''. Noel Gardner of ''The Quietus'' called ''Cold World'' a "curio", saying, "Rhythms are brought to the fore, vocals scaled back and jumbled among the overt volley of FX abuse; it soun ...

Slateman (song)
"Slateman" is a song by industrial metal band Godflesh. It was released as a 7-inch single in 1991 through Sub Pop and later reissued on Earache Records as a CD, a 7-inch and a 12-inch. In 1996, the single was repackaged alongside '' Cold World'' (1991) on one disc by Earache Records as the compilation ''Slateman/Cold World''. Both "Slateman" and its b-side, "Wound '91", were appended to the end of most issues of Godflesh's 1991 EP ''Slavestate''. Background The song "Wound '91" is an updated version of the song "Wound" from the unreleased ''Tiny Tears'' EP, which was later appended as bonus tracks to the end of the CD version of ''Streetcleaner'' (1989). The single's cover photograph was taken during a 1991 gig in London where the band opened for Nirvana. Critical reception Ira A. Robbins of ''Trouser Press'' wrote, "The four-song ''Slavestate'' EP finds the band charging full-on into an industrial-dance realm, giving ''Streetcleaners lurch-and-crunch the twist of a rhythmic ...

Slavestate
''Slavestate'' is an EP by industrial metal band Godflesh. It was released in July 1991 through Earache Records. The EP saw the band experimenting with more samples and electronic sounds than their predominantly industrial metal prior releases. Composition With ''Slavestate'', Godflesh sought to diversify their metal-dominated sound by introducing elements of dance music and electronic body music. Still, the music retained the harsh guitar and vocals of frontman Justin Broadrick, as well as the extreme aspects of Godflesh. Ira A. Robbins of ''Trouser Press'' wrote, "The four-song ''Slavestate'' EP finds the band charging full-on into an industrial-dance realm, giving ''Streetcleaners lurch-and-crunch the twist of a rhythmic basis." The EP's title track contains a sample of the song "Stakker Humanoid" by Brian Dougans. On ''Slavestate's'' shift in style, Broadrick said: Release ''Slavestate'' was initially released as a four-song EP. A three-song remix EP titled ''Slavest ...

Loopflesh/Fleshloop
''Loopflesh/Fleshloop'' is a split EP between English industrial metal band Godflesh and English rock band Loop. On side A of the 7-inch vinyl, Loop covers the song "Like Rats" by Godflesh, and on side B, Godflesh covers the song "Straight to Your Heart" by Loop. The palindrome "Rats Live On No Evil Star" appears etched into both sides of the record. Only a thousand copies were pressed. Background Both Justin Broadrick of Godflesh and Robert Hampson of Loop were fans of each other's bands before they met. After becoming introduced, Loop invited Godflesh to be opening act on their 1990 tour. It was after that successful string of shows that the bands decided to create ''Loopflesh/Fleshloop''. Hampson and his bandmates were originally fans of Head of David, in which Broadrick drummed. As such, they were immediately aware of Godflesh and its first album, ''Streetcleaner''. Regarding the album and the song from it that Loop covered, Robert Hampson said: Regarding the song t ...
