Just Before Dawn (1981 Film)
''Just Before Dawn'' is a 1981 American slasher film directed by Jeff Lieberman and starring Chris Lemmon, Gregg Henry, Deborah Benson, Ralph Seymour, Jamie Rose, and George Kennedy. The film follows a group of hikers who travel into a mountainous region of Oregon to visit property inherited by one of them, only to be hunted by a ruthless backwoods killer. Inspired by ''Deliverance'' (1972), Lieberman rewrote an original screenplay by Mark Arywitz and Jonas Middleton, which was originally set in Tennessee and featured prominent religious themes. Principal photography began in July 1980 at Silver Falls State Park in Silverton, Oregon. The original musical score was one of the earlier works of Brad Fiedel, who went on to compose the scores for such films as ''The Terminator'' (1984) and ''Fright Night'' (1985). Jeff Lieberman (born October 16, 1947) is an American film director and screenwriter, known for his cult horror and thriller films ''Squirm'' (1976), '' Blue Sunshine'' (1978) and '' Just Before Dawn'' (1981). Biography Jeff Lieberman was born in 1947 in the Brooklyn borough of New York City. He made his feature film debut as the writer and director of the nature horror film ''Squirm'' (1976), about earthworms inundating a small Southern town and wreaking havoc. His following film, '' Blue Sunshine'' (1978), followed a series of murders in Los Angeles, connected to the killers' use of a certain strain of LSD. ''Squirm'' is a 1976 American natural horror film written and directed by Jeff Lieberman, starring Don Scardino, Patricia Pearcy, R. A. Dow, Jean Sullivan, Peter MacLean, Fran Higgins and William Newman. The film takes place in the fictional town of Fly Creek, Georgia, which becomes infested with carnivorous worms after an electrical storm. Survival Film
The survival film is a film genre in which one or more characters make an effort at physical survival. It often overlaps with other film genres. It is a subgenre of the adventure film, along with swashbuckler films, war films, and safari films.
