Jurmala Young Pop Singer Competition
The Jurmala Young Pop Singer Competition ( lv, Jauno dziedātāju konkurss „Jūrmala”, russian: конкурс молодых исполнителей эстрадной песни "Юрмала"), has been held almost annually during 1986-1993 in the resort town, resort city of Jūrmala, Latvia. Each year the chairman of the jury was the initiator of the festival, Raimonds Pauls. Another founder and host (until 1992) was Yuri Nikolaev. Aleksandr Malinin
Aleksandr Nikolaevich Malinin (russian: Александр Николаевич Малинин, born Vyguzov, russian: Выгузов; 16 November 1958) is a Russian singer who was named a People's Artist of Russia in 1997. Career Malinin was born in Yekaterinburg (then Sverdlovsk) as Aleksandr Nikolaevich Vyguzov. At the end of the 1980s, he toured the United States and made a duet with David Pomeranz, becoming the first Soviet singer to collaborate with an American musician since the breakout of the Cold War. Between 1990 and 1996, he gave several sold-out concerts named Балы с Александром Малининым (Dances with Aleksandr Malinin), breaking attendance records. New Wave (competition)
New Wave (russian: Новая волна, ''Novaya volna'', lv, Jaunais Vilnis) is an international contest for young performers of popular music founded in 2002 by the Russian composer Igor Krutoy and Latvian pianist and composer Raimonds Pauls and later enhanced by the Russian superstar Alla Pugacheva. The contest usually lasts for six days: 3 contest days, 2 special event days and, at the end, the day where the contest's results are announced followed by an ending concert. Location For the first 14 years New Wave was held in the Latvian coastal city of Jūrmala, but in 2015 it moved to Sochi, the Russian Federation (other potential locations included Baku, Kaliningrad, Kazan and Crimea).
