Juraj Tarr
Juraj Tarr (born 18 February 1979) is a Slovak flatwater sprint canoeist who competes in two-man (K-2) and four-man (K-4) events. He participated in four Olympics in the K-4 1000 m event and won silver medals in 2008 and 2016, placing fourth in 2000 and sixth in 2012. He also won eight medals at the ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships in 2005–2015, including four gold medals. Tarr belongs to the Hungarian minority in Slovakia. He took up canoeing aged eight, following his father Juraj Tarr Sr., who competed internationally for Czechoslovakia. He was named Slovak Kayaker of the Year in 2014 (together with Erik Vlček) and in 2015. Komárno
Komárno, ( hu, Komárom, german: Komorn, sr, Коморан, translit=Komoran), colloquially also called ''Révkomárom, Öregkomárom, Észak-Komárom'' in Hungarian language, Hungarian; is a town in Slovakia at the confluence of the Danube and the Váh rivers. Historically it was formed by the "old town" on the left bank of Danube, present day Komárno in Slovakia, and by a "new town" on the right bank, present day Komárom in Hungary, which were historically one administrative unit. Following World War I and the Treaty of Trianon, the border of the newly created Czechoslovakia cut the historical, unified town in half, creating two new independent towns in two countries. Komárno and Komárom are connected by the Elisabeth Bridge, which used to be an official border crossing between Slovakia and Hungary until border checks were lifted due to the Schengen Area rules. Canoe Sprint European Championships
The Canoe Sprint European Championships (or European Canoe Sprint Championships) is an international canoeing and kayaking event organized by the European Canoe Association (ECA). It was first held in 1933 in Prague under the auspices of the International Canoe Federation. In 1997, the European Championships were resumed, and now take place annually. The most titled athlete of the European Championships is Hungarian Katalin Kovács, who has 29 gold medals, 17 silver medals and 2 bronze medals in her record. Thyroid Cancer
Thyroid cancer is cancer that develops from the tissues of the thyroid gland. It is a disease in which cells grow abnormally and have the potential to spread to other parts of the body. Symptoms can include swelling or a lump in the neck. Cancer can also occur in the thyroid after spread from other locations, in which case it is not classified as thyroid cancer. Risk factors include radiation exposure at a young age, having an enlarged thyroid, and family history. The four main types are papillary thyroid cancer, follicular thyroid cancer, medullary thyroid cancer, and anaplastic thyroid cancer. Diagnosis is often based on ultrasound and fine needle aspiration. Screening people without symptoms and at normal risk for the disease is not recommended as of 2017. Treatment options may include surgery, radiation therapy including radioactive iodine, chemotherapy, thyroid hormone, targeted therapy, and watchful waiting. Erik Vlček
Erik Vlček ( hu, Vlcsek Erik; born 29 December 1981) is a Slovak sprint canoer who has competed since the late 1990s. He is a member of the Hungarian community in Slovakia. Competing in five Summer Olympics, he won three medals in the K-4 1000 m event with a silver in 2008, 2016 and a bronze in 2004.
