June 2017 Pakistan Bombings
On 23 June 2017, a series of terrorist attacks took place in Pakistan resulting in 96 dead and over 200 wounded. They included a suicide bombing in Quetta targeting policemen, followed by a double bombing at a market in Parachinar, and the targeted killing of four policemen in Karachi. Responsibility for the Quetta attack was claimed by Jamaat-ul-Ahrar and ISIL, while no group accepted responsibility for the Parachinar attack. According to the military, both attacks were coordinated from terrorist sanctuaries in Afghanistan. Background The attacks followed earlier blasts that had occurred in Quetta and Parachinar in 2017: Quetta on 13 February and 21 April; and Parachinar on 21 January and 31 March. Jumu'atul-Widaa' ( meaning ''Friday of farewell'', also called al-Jumu'ah al-Yateemah or ''the orphaned Friday'' Urdu: Al-Widaa Juma) is the last Friday in the month of Ramadhan before Eid-ul-Fitr. Etymology Jumu'ah comes from the Arabic word for "gathering". Widaa' means "farewell". Jiwani
Jiwani (Urdu, bal, ) is a town and commercial port that is located along the Gulf of Oman in the Gwadar District of the Balochistan province in Pakistan. The town is also next to the Iran-Pakistan border. The town has a total population of 25,000 and is expected to become a major commercial centre in concert with the development of the port city of Gwadar. Gwadar is located nearly to the east. Operation Radd-ul-Fasaad
Operation Radd-ul-Fasaad ( ur, ; ) is a codename of a combined military operation by the Pakistani military in support of local law enforcement agencies to disarm and eliminate the terrorist sleeper cells across all states of Pakistan, started on 22 February 2017. The operation is aimed to eliminate the threat of terrorism, and consolidating the gains of Operation Zarb-e-Azb which was launched in 2014 as a joint military offensive. It is further aimed at ensuring the security of Pakistan's borders. Operation Ghazi
On 13 February 2017, Jamaat-ul-Ahrar released a video announcing the launch of "Operation Ghazi", named after Abdul Rashid Ghazi who was killed in July 2007 inside the Lal Masjid. The operation started with the suicide bombing at the Mall, in which 12 civilians and six police officers were killed.
