''Junction 88'' is a 1948 American musical film, telling the story of an aspiring songwriter. It was directed by George P. Quigley. The film is part of the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture collection. The 16 mm film captured on acetate runs 50 minutes. J. Augustus Smith and Herbert Junior wrote the songs. Smithsonian National Museum Of African American History And Culture
The National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC) is a Smithsonian Institution museum located on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., in the United States. It was established in December 2003 and opened its permanent home in September 2016 with a ceremony led by President Barack Obama. Early efforts to establish a federally owned museum featuring African-American history and culture can be traced to 1915, although the modern push for such an organization did not begin until the 1970s. After years of little success, a much more serious legislative push began in 1988 that led to authorization of the museum in 2003. A site was selected in 2006, and a design submitted by Phil Freelon, Freelon Group/David Adjaye, Adjaye Associates/Davis Brody Bond was chosen in 2009. Dewey "Pigmeat" Markham (April 18, 1904 – December 13, 1981) was an African American entertainer. Though best known as a comedian, Markham was also a singer, dancer, and actor. His nickname came from a stage routine, in which he declared himself to be "Sweet Poppa Pigmeat". He was sometimes credited in films as Pigmeat "Alamo" Markham, and he is also known for what is considered some of the earliest hip hop, with his song " Here Comes the Judge". Early life and career Markham was born in the community of Hayti in Durham, North Carolina. His family was the most prominent on their street, which came to be called (and later officially named) Markham Street in the Hayti District. Noble Lee Sissle (July 10, 1889 – December 17, 1975) was an American jazz composer, lyricist, bandleader, singer, and playwright, best known for the Broadway musical ''Shuffle Along'' (1921), and its hit song "I'm Just Wild About Harry". Artie Belle McGinty (1892–1963) was an American actor in theater, films, and radio in the United States from the 1910s through the 1940s. She performed as a singer, dancer, and comedienne. She was a member of the Negro Actors Guild and an appointed member of the organization's dance committee.
