Jumpstart is a Los Angeles-based non-profit that helps support, develop and enhance the effectiveness of projects and organizations initiating from within the Jewish Community. History The organization was formed by Shawn Landres and Joshua Avedon (son of Barbara Avedon) in 2008 with a mission "to develop, strengthen, and learn from emerging nonprofit organizations that build community at the nexus of spirituality, learning, social activism, and culture, in order to transform the broader Jewish community and the world." Shawn Landres
J. Shawn Landres (born 1972 in Los Angeles, California) is a social entrepreneur and independent scholar, and local civic leader, known for applied research related to charitable giving and faith-based social innovation and community development, as well as for innovation in government and civic engagement. The Jewish Daily Forward named Landres to its annual list of the 50 most influential American Jews in 2009. Barbara Avedon
Barbara Avedon (June 14, 1925 – August 31, 1994) was an American Screenwriting#Television writing, television writer, political Activism, activist, and Feminism, feminist. She founded the anti-war organization Another Mother for Peace. Biography She was one of the writers for the television series ''Bewitched'', and helped a group of Jefferson High School (Los Angeles), Jefferson High School students write the episode "Sisters at Heart". She also wrote for ''Executive Suite (TV series), Executive Suite'' and ''Fish (U.S. TV series), Fish'', a 1977-78 Spin-off (media), spin-off from ''Barney Miller''. Jewish American Heritage Month (JAHM) is an annual recognition and celebration of American Jews' achievements and contributions to the United States of America during the month of May.
