Juma Mwapachu
Juma Volter Mwapachu (born 27 September 1942 in Mwanza, Tanzania) is a Tanzanian politician and former Secretary General of the East African Community. He replaced Amanya Mushega of Uganda who completed his five-year term on March 24, 2006. Background Mwapachu was nominated for the post by Tanzanian President Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete. He was elected as Secretary General of the East African Community by the Summit of EAC Heads of State on April 4, 2006. Prior to this appointment, Mwapachu was Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary and Tanzania's permanent delegate to UNESCO. Mwapachu is a law graduate of the University of Dar es Salaam (degree obtained in 1969). He also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in International Law, International Institutions and Diplomacy from the Indian Academy of International Law and Diplomacy, New Delhi, India. List Of Secretaries General Of The East African Community
This is a list of the Secretaries-General of the East African Community since the re-established East African Community, after the EAC Treaty 1999 came into force in July 2000. Since then there have been five secretaries-general appointed by the relevant heads of state. Both the secretary-general position and the chairman position is appointed on a rotational basis by the respective partner states. The secretary-general has to be a deputy secretary-general to be appointed and at a time, there are four deputy secretaries in place. The Tanzania Railways Corporation (TRC) is a state-owned enterprise that runs one of Tanzania's two main railway networks. When the East African Railways and Harbours Corporation was dissolved in 1977 and its assets divided between Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, TRC was formed to take over its operations in Tanzania.
