African Men's Handball Championship
The African Handball Nations Championship is the official competition for senior national handball teams of Africa, and takes place every two years. In addition to crowning the African champions, the tournament also serves as a qualifying tournament for the Olympic Games and for World Handball Championship. Started in 1974, it is the oldest continental handball competition. The current champions are Egypt, who won the 2022 tournament in Egypt. Only three countries have won the tournament. Tunisia, winner of the first edition, has won the title a record ten times. Egypt, with eight titles, and Algeria, with seven titles, are the only two other teams to have won the competition. Both Morocco and Algeria were banned from hosting the African Handball Championship in 2022 and 2024, Egypt were chosen to host the tournaments instead. 2016 African Men's Handball Championship
The 2016 African Men's Handball Championship was the 22nd edition of the African Men's Handball Championship and held in Egypt from 21 to 30 January 2016. It acted as the African qualifying tournament for the Handball at the 2016 Summer Olympics, 2016 Summer Olympics and the 2017 World Men's Handball Championship. Egypt won their sixth title after defeating Tunisia 21–19, while Angola defeated Algeria 25–19 to capture the bronze medal. The win qualified Egypt for the Olympics, while runner-up Tunisia received a place in the Handball at the 2016 Summer Olympics – Men's qualification, Olympic Qualification Tournament. Handball
Handball (also known as team handball, European handball or Olympic handball) is a team sport in which two teams of seven players each (six outcourt players and a goalkeeper) pass a ball using their hands with the aim of throwing it into the goal of the other team. A standard match consists of two periods of 30 minutes, and the team that scores more goals wins. Modern handball is played on a court of , with a goal in the middle of each end. 2017 World Men's Handball Championship
The 2017 IHF World Men's Handball Championship was the 25th event hosted by the International Handball Federation. The event was held in France from 11 to 29 January 2017. France, in a clean sweep, defended their title by defeating Norway 33–26 in the final, which secured France their sixth title. Slovenia defeated Croatia 31–30 to capture the bronze medal. Norway (from a wildcard) and Slovenia earned their first World Championship medals ever. The championship set a record of attendance in total of 540,000 spectators with 23 matches being sold out and with a venue record of 28,010 at both of France's knock-out matches in Lille.
