Julius Yankowsky
Julius Edward Yankowsky (born August 8, 1938) is a former politician from Alberta, Canada. He served in the Legislative Assembly of Alberta from 1993 to 2004. Political career Yankowsky first ran for the Alberta Legislature in the 1993 general election, in the electoral district of Edmonton-Beverly-Belmont for the Liberal Party. He defeated incumbent New Democrat MLA Ed Ewasiuk. A year into his first term in office Yankowsky crossed the floor to the Progressive Conservative Party. In the 1997 general election he was re-elected in the new electoral district of Edmonton Beverly-Clareview. In the 2001 general election he was re-elected with a comfortable plurality over five other candidates. Lamont, Alberta
Lamont is a town in central Alberta, Canada. It is located east of Edmonton at the junction of Highway 15 and Highway 831. History Settlement began in the 1880s. The area's location along the Victoria Trail, which was used by travellers between Edmonton and Winnipeg through most of the 1800s, aided the area's growing prosperity. This Victoria Trail was a road that ran south of the river, the so-called "plain lainstrail." (A better known alternative route under the same name ran along the north bank and is now memorialized by the Victoria Trail in Edmonton.) The town was named in honour of Canadian politician John Henderson Lamont. The Lamont Hospital opened in 1912, serving the entire region. On November 29, 1960, a school bus carrying students from nearby Chipman to school in Lamont was struck by a train, killing 17 students (15 girls and two boys). 1997 Alberta General Election
The 1997 Alberta general election was held on March 11, 1997, to elect members of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta. Ralph Klein's Conservatives were re-elected, with increased number of seats in the Legislature. Liberal Official Opposition lost some seats dropping from 32 to 18, but retaining the status of Official Opposition. NDP gained two, to have a grand total of two seats. 2004 Alberta General Election
The 2004 Alberta general election was held on November 22, 2004 to elect members of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta. The election was called on October 25, 2004. Premier Ralph Klein decided to go to the polls earlier than the legislated deadline of March 2006. This election was held in conjunction with the 2004 Alberta Senate nominee election. When the election was called, it was expected to be anticlimactic, with Klein cruising to his fourth straight majority, the tenth for his Progressive Conservative Party. Shortly after the drop of the writs, Klein's mother died and all parties suspended their campaigns for several days. After the campaign resumed, Klein avoided making any policy announcements and attended few events. 2001 Alberta General Election
The 2001 Alberta general election was held on March 12, 2001 to elect members of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta. The incumbent Alberta Progressive Conservative Party, led by Ralph Klein, won a strong majority for its tenth consecutive term in government. In addition to increasing its share of the popular vote to almost 62%, the PC Party won a majority of seats in Edmonton for the first time since 1982. Edmonton-Beverly-Clareview is a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, Canada. The electoral district covers the neighbourhoods of Beverly, Belmont Park and Clareview Town Centre. It was created in 1996, and was first contested in the 1997 election. It was last contested in the 2019 election, and has been held by Deron Bilous of the NDP since 2012. Edward William "Eddie" Ewasiuk (September 24, 1933 – April 14, 2006) was a labour activist, a city councilor in Edmonton, Alberta and a NDP Member of the Legislative Assembly in the Legislative Assembly of Alberta. He was born in Vegreville, Alberta. Early life Ed W. Ewasiuk was born on September 24, 1933 in Vegreville, Alberta. He was born to parents of Ukrainian descent. Ewasiuk was a labour activist with what was the Oil, Chemical and Atomic Workers Union. He served as a president of his local and then as a national vice-president. In 1980, he ran for city council in Edmonton's Northeast Ward 3 as part of the now-defunct Edmonton Voters' Association municipal party. and won, and was re-elected in 1983.
