Julius Neßler
Julius Neßler (6 June 1827 – 19 March 1905) was a German chemist. He devised the chemical solution '' Nessler's reagent'' which provides a colorimetric measure of ammonia concentration. Biography Neßler studied at the University of Freiburg from 1853 to 1856, when he attained his PhD. After his Ph.D. Neßler worked for some months with Lambert Heinrich von Babo and Robert Wilhelm Bunsen and then joined a chemical company in Karlsruhe. Kehl (; gsw, label= Low Alemannic German, Low Alemannic, Kaal) is a town in southwestern Germany in the Ortenaukreis, Baden-Württemberg. Nessler Cylinder
Nessler cylinders (also named color comparison cylinders or color comparing cylinders) are laboratory tubes with a fixed volume, made of glass with optically plane bottom. On the walls, there are marks of the nominal stroke volume (usually 100 ml) and possibly one halfway mark (usually 50 ml). Nessler cylinders are used for colorimetric analysis, such as APHA color. The color of the substance contained in a Nessler cylinder is visually compared with the model. The tubes often carry out a series of calibrations of solutions of increasing concentrations, which functions as a comparative scale. To minimize differences in the subjective impression of the color of the solution of the substance to be analyzed, cylinders of a series should have the same characteristics - height, diameter, and thickness of glass. The Beer–Lambert law, also known as Beer's law, the Lambert–Beer law, or the Beer–Lambert–Bouguer law relates the attenuation of light to the properties of the material through which the light is travelling. The law is commonly applied to chemical analysis measurements and used in understanding attenuation in physical optics, for photons, neutrons, or rarefied gases. Robert Wilhelm Eberhard Bunsen (; 30 March 1811 – 16 August 1899) was a German chemist. He investigated emission spectra of heated elements, and discovered caesium (in 1860) and rubidium (in 1861) with the physicist Gustav Kirchhoff.
