Julio De La Vega
Julio de la Vega (March 4, 1924 – November 11, 2010) was a Bolivian people, Bolivian poet and writer. He was born in Puerto Suarez, Santa Cruz Department (Bolivia), Santa Cruz, in 1924. He was a founding member of the Bolivian literary group Gesta Bárbara in its second version in the 1940s. In 1947, he won the Flor Natural Prize at the Juegos Florales Cervantinos in La Paz. In 1966, he published his poetry collection, ''Poemario de exaltaciones'', which won the Premio Franz Tamayo. In 1969, he received "first mention" at the Premio Erich Guttentag for his soon-to-be-published novel ''Matías, el apóstol suplente''. This novel is widely regarded as one of the finest in Bolivian literature. He taught literature at the Universidad Mayor de San Andrés (UMSA) from 1971 to 2000. Bolivian People
Bolivians ( es, Bolivianos) are people identified with the country of Bolivia. This connection may be residential, legal, historical or cultural. For most Bolivians, several (or all) of these connections exist and are collectively the source of their being Bolivian. Bolivia is, as its neighboring countries, a multiethnic and multilingual society, home to people of various ethnic, religious, and national origins, with the majority of the population made up of indigenous and Old World immigrants and their descendants. Santa Cruz Department (Bolivia)
Santa Cruz () is the largest of the nine constituent departments of Bolivia, occupying about one-third (33.74%) of the country's territory. With an area of , it is slightly smaller than Japan or the US state of Montana. It is located in the eastern part of the country, sharing borders in the north and east with Brazil and with Paraguay in the south. In the 2012 census, it reported a population of 3,412,921, making it the most populated department. The capital is the city of Santa Cruz de la Sierra. Gesta Bárbara
Gesta Bárbara was a Bolivian literary journal that played an important role in Bolivian culture in the first half of the 20th century. It was established by Carlos Medinaceli in Potosí in 1918. In its first iteration, the journal ran for ten issues. It then ceased publication and was revived many years later, in 1948. The second run was managed by Gustavo Medinaceli and produced four issues before the magazine closed down permanently. It is said to have been inspired by Ricardo Jaimes Freyre and his work '' Castalia Bárbara'', and early meetings to set it up took place in the house of María Dolores de Inostrosa. The constant political turmoil that Bolivia has experienced throughout its history has slowed the development of Bolivian literature. Many talents have had to emigrate or were silenced by the internal conflict. In recent years the literature of Bolivia has been in a process of growth, with the appearance of new writers. Older writers such as Adela Zamudio, Oscar Alfaro, and Franz Tamayo continue to be important. Nearly half of Bolivia's population speaks indigenous languages such as Quechua, Aymara or Guarani. Bolivian Academy Of Language
The Academia Boliviana de la Lengua (Spanish for ''Bolivian Academy of Language'') is an association of academics and experts on the use of the Spanish language in Bolivia. It is a member of the Association of Spanish Language Academies. The academy was founded in La Paz on August 25, 1927, by a group of linguists and writers, including Víctor Muñoz Reyes (the minister of industry and finance at the time) and Francisco Iraizós y Rosendo Villalobos (named as the academy's first director). Other founding members included Hernando Siles (Bolivia's president at the time), Félix del Granado (the father of the future poet laureate and influential academic Javier del Granado), Ricardo Mujía, and Florián Zambrana.
