Julie Andersen
Julie Andersen is an activist and a founder of Shark Angels, a nonprofit organization focused on shark conservation. Biography Andersen has been interested in ocean life since she was young; she started diving in 1995. For more than 14 years, she worked in advertising in Chicago and owned a successful marketing business that worked with clients such as Porsche and Citibank. In 2007, at a film screening in New York, she met director Rob Stewart. Within months, she sold her agency, her car, and her house and moved to South Africa to become a shark conservationist. The same year, she founded the non-profit Shark Angels and swam with Sea Shepherd Conservation Society Executive Director Kim McCoy and Save Our Seas Foundation Head Field Biologist Alison Kock to push back on the idea that sharks are vicious, maneating creatures. The foundation of Shark Angels was inspired by the horrors of the shark finning industry; since then, she has gone undercover in more than 20 countries to expo ...

Brackets
A bracket is either of two tall fore- or back-facing punctuation marks commonly used to isolate a segment of text or data from its surroundings. Typically deployed in symmetric pairs, an individual bracket may be identified as a 'left' or 'right' bracket or, alternatively, an "opening bracket" or "closing bracket", respectively, depending on the Writing system#Directionality, directionality of the context. Specific forms of the mark include parentheses (also called "rounded brackets"), square brackets, curly brackets (also called 'braces'), and angle brackets (also called 'chevrons'), as well as various less common pairs of symbols. As well as signifying the overall class of punctuation, the word "bracket" is commonly used to refer to a specific form of bracket, which varies from region to region. In most English-speaking countries, an unqualified word "bracket" refers to the parenthesis (round bracket); in the United States, the square bracket. Glossary of mathematical sym ...

The channel airs programming devoted to wildlife, nature, and animals. History In April 2010, Canwest (the majority owner and operator of the Canadian version of National Geographic Channel) had requested the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) to add the U.S. version of Nat Geo Wild to the list of available foreign channels permitted to broadcast in Canada. Both High Fidelity HDTV (the owner of Oasis HD) and CTV Speciality Television Inc. (the major owner of the Canadian version of Animal Planet) sent letters to CRTC to oppose the request because they considered Nat Geo Wild to be competitive with Oasis HD and Animal Planet. Canwest was acquired by Shaw Communications later that year. The CRTC denied the application on February 15, 2011. In October 2011, NGC Channel Inc. (a company owned by Shaw ...

People From Chicago
A person ( : people) is a being that has certain capacities or attributes such as reason, morality, consciousness or self-consciousness, and being a part of a culturally established form of social relations such as kinship, ownership of property, or legal responsibility. The defining features of personhood and, consequently, what makes a person count as a person, differ widely among cultures and contexts. In addition to the question of personhood, of what makes a being count as a person to begin with, there are further questions about personal identity and self: both about what makes any particular person that particular person instead of another, and about what makes a person at one time the same person as they were or will be at another time despite any intervening changes. The plural form "people" is often used to refer to an entire nation or ethnic group (as in "a people"), and this was the original meaning of the word; it subsequently acquired its use as a plural form of per ...

Oceanic White Tip Shark
The oceanic whitetip shark (''Carcharhinus longimanus''), also known as shipwreck shark, Brown Milbert's sand bar shark, brown shark, lesser white shark, nigano shark, oceanic white-tipped whaler, and silvertip shark, is a large pelagic requiem shark inhabiting tropical and warm temperate seas. Its stocky body is most notable for its long, white-tipped, rounded fins. Though slow-moving, it is opportunistic and aggressive, and is reputed to be dangerous to shipwreck survivors. Recent studies show steeply declining populations because its large fins are highly valued as the chief ingredient of shark fin soup, and as with other shark species, the whitetip faces mounting fishing pressure throughout its range. Taxonomy The oceanic whitetip shark, or lesser white shark, was described in 1831 by naturalist René-Primevère Lesson, who named the shark ''Carcharhinus maou''. It was next described by Cuban Felipe Poey in 1861 as ''Squalus longimanus''. The name ''Pterolamiops longiman ...
