Bilmeyer enrolled in the architecture courses at the Antwerp Academy from 1865 to 1870. He worked simultaneously at the architecture office of the Baeckelmans brothers: Frans Clemens Baeckelmans (1827–1896) and Jan Lodewijk Baeckelmans (1835–1871). Berchem () is a southern Districts of Antwerp, district of the municipality and city of Antwerp in the Flemish Region of Belgium. The Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp ( nl, Koninklijke Academie voor Schone Kunsten van Antwerpen) is an art academy located in Antwerp, Belgium. It is one of the oldest of its kind in Europe. It was founded in 1663 by David Teniers the Younger, painter to the Archduke Leopold Wilhelm and Don Juan of Austria.
