Julenatt (Rein Alexander- Og Elisabeth Andreassen-album)
Julenatt is a Christmas album by Elisabeth Andreassen and Rein Alexander, released in Norway on 16 November 2009, and followed up by a church tour. The album peaked at 11th position at the Norwegian. The album was recorded inside the Kongshavn Studio i Kristiansand between September–October 2009. Bjørn Ole Rasch produced the album, and the songs are based on the 2008 and 2009 Elisabeth Andreassen and Rein Alexander church tours. The first tour, "Julekonsert med Rein Alexander & Elisabeth Andreassen", was carried out in November–December 2009 and becoming a major success, it was followed up by the "Julenatt" tour before Christmas 2009. While most songs originate from the 2009 tour, even songs from the 2008 tour appear on the album. The album contains older and newer songs sung in Swedish, Norwegian, English and Latin. Coventry Carol
The "Coventry Carol" is an English Christmas carol dating from the 16th century. The carol was traditionally performed in Coventry in England as part of a mystery play called ''Coventry Mystery Plays, The Pageant of the Shearmen and Tailors''. The play depicts the Christmas story from Matthew 2, chapter two in the Gospel of Matthew: the carol itself refers to the Massacre of the Innocents, in which Herod the Great, Herod ordered all male infants under the age of two in Bethlehem to be killed, and takes the form of a lullaby sung by mothers of the doomed children. The music contains a well-known example of a Picardy third. The author is unknown; the oldest known text was written down by Robert Croo in 1534, and the oldest known setting of the melody dates from 1591. "I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day" is a Christmas carol based on the 1863 poem "Christmas Bells" by American poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. "Fairest Lord Jesus", also known as "Beautiful Savior", is a Christian hymn. History According to some accounts, it was called "Crusader's Hymn" because it was sung by German Crusaders as they made their way to the Holy Land. But William Jensen Reynolds dismisses as "completely erroneous" any association of this hymn with the Crusades. The words may have originated in the Jesuit Order, which came into being after the Crusades. The words were first printed in a Münster Gesangbuch of 1677, a Roman Catholic hymnbook.
