Judy Hornby
Judy Hornby, also known as Judith Hornby, is a British-born American-based former model, fashion designer and boutique owner. In 1971 one of her ensembles, designed for her by Graziella Fontana, was chosen as the Dress of the Year. She then went on to become a successful American fashion designer. Career Hornby was originally a model, before entering fashion design and retail. She commissioned samples and garments from freelance designers such as Graziella Fontana. NB: Lester incorrectly refers to Serena Sinclair as Serena Sutcliffe The Fashion Museum (Bath) asked Serena Sinclair, who had been voted Fashion Writer of The Year in 1970, to choose the defining look for 1971 to add to their Dress of the Year collection. Sinclair selected one of Fontana's Liberty-print cotton hotpants ensembles for Hornby as her womenswear look, alongside a Blades man's suit. Graziella Fontana
Graziella Fontana is a Genoese Italian fashion designer who was active in the London Mod fashion scene in the 1960s and early 1970s. One of her designs, a hotpants suit in check Liberty cotton, was chosen as the Dress of the Year in 1971. Fontana worked for a number of manufacturers and design houses in France and Britain during the 1960s and early 1970s, including Chloé, where she was a co-designer with Karl Lagerfeld from 1965 to 1972. Although Italian, and associated with the French house of Chloé, she was also listed alongside Ossie Clark and Foale and Tuffin as one of "England's young mod designers". Stephen Burrows (born September 15, 1943) is an American fashion designer based in New York City. Burrows studied at Fashion Institute of Technology, then began work in the New York City's Garment Center, alternately managing his own businesses and working closely with luxury department store Henri Bendel. He is known for being one of the first African-American fashion designers to sell internationally and develop a mainstream, high-fashion clientele. His garments, known for their bright colors and "lettuce hem" curly-edges, became an integral part of the "Fun City" New York City disco-dancing scene of the 1970s. Dame Zandra Lindsey Rhodes, (born 19 September 1940), is an English fashion and textile designer. Her early education in fashion set the foundation for a career in the industry creating textile prints. Rhodes has designed garments for Diana, Princess of Wales and numerous celebrities such as rock stars Freddie Mercury and Marc Bolan.
