Judy Hermans
Judy Hermans is a South African politician from the Western Cape who has been serving as a Member of the National Assembly since June 2019. Hermans is a member of the African National Congress. Parliamentary career Hermans was given the 113th position on the national-to-national list of the African National Congress for the 2019 general election. She was not elected. Hermans entered the National Assembly on 10 June 2019 as a replacement for former cabinet minister Tokozile Xasa, who had resigned. Tokozile Xasa (born 28 April 1965) is a South African politician, replaced as Minister of Tourism of South Africa by President Cyril Ramaphosa in his cabinet re-shuffle on 26 February 2018. Under Xasa's watch SA Tourism, an entity under the Department of Tourism, spent R6.9 million on the PR services of Bell Pottinger, at the same time the controversial Gupta Family were using Bell Pottinger to sow racial division in South Africa. Xasa was the Minister of Sport and Recreation from 26 February 2018 to 29 May 2019. The Western Cape is a province of South Africa, situated on the south-western coast of the country. 2019 South African General Election
General elections were held in South Africa on 8 May 2019 to elect a new President, National Assembly and provincial legislatures in each province. These were the sixth elections held since the end of apartheid in 1994 and determined who would become the next President of South Africa. Incumbent President Cyril Ramaphosa led the ruling African National Congress, with the party attempting to retain its majority status and secure Ramaphosa a full term in office as president; his predecessor, Jacob Zuma, resigned from office on 14 February 2018. Zuma was already ineligible for a third term in office as the South African Constitution limits a president to serve a maximum of two five-year terms. The National Assembly is the directly elected house of the Parliament of South Africa, located in Cape Town, Western Cape. It consists of four hundred members who are elected every five years using a party-list proportional representation system where half of the members are elected proportionally from nine provincial lists and the remaining half from national lists so as to restore proportionality. The National Assembly is presided over by a Speaker, assisted by a Deputy Speaker.
