2016 South Asian Games
The 2016 South Asian Games, officially the XII South Asian Games, is a major multi-sport event which took place from 5 February to 16 February 2016 in Guwahati and Shillong, India. A total of 2,672 athletes competed in 226 events over 22 sports. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 2016 South Asian Games in Guwahati on 5 February 2016. India continued its dominance in the game's medal tally with a staggering 308 medals including 188 gold medals. Host selection The games were originally scheduled to be held in 2012 in Kathmandu, but were postponed to Delhi for 2013 but again, were postponed to late 2015 because of the suspension of the Indian Olympic Association. In 2015 it was decided to further postpone the competition to early 2016, because participating countries felt the December dates did not present enough time for preparation. Career Chamara represented Sri Lanka at the 2014 Commonwealth Games which was his maiden appearance at the Commonwealth Games. He competed in the men's 73kg event at the 2014 Commonwealth Games and reached round of 16 before being eliminated by Jake Bensted. Avtar Singh (born 3 April 1992) is an Indian judoka who competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics being held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Personal life Singh was born on 3 April 1992 in Gurdaspur, Punjab, India. Whilst growing up in Kothe Ghurala village, he spent time working on his parents farm. He works as an assistant sub inspector for the Punjab Police (India), Punjab Police. Judo He represented India at the 2014 Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow, Scotland. She won the bronze medal in the women's 52 kg weight class at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland. Manita Shrestha Pradhan (born 1 June 1999) is a Nepalese judoka. Early life Born in Panchthar, she stayed as a child at Prisoners Aid Mission in Kathmandu. She started judo in 2009. She attended Bal Bikas Secondary School in Ranibari, Kathmandu. Career She won a silver medal in the 57kg category at the 2016 South Asian Games in Shillong, India. Phupu Lhamu Khatri
Phupu Lhamu Khatri ( ne, फुपु लामु खत्री; born 5 October 1996) is a Nepali female judoka and Olympian. She won a gold medal for Nepal at the 2016 South Asian Games, and went on to bag the Female Player of the Year Award at the NSJF Pulsar Sports Award in the same year. Khatri has been playing for the senior team since 2012. She claimed a silver medal in Ranking Judo held in Hong Kong in 2015. In the same year, she claimed bronze in the JUA Junior Championship held in Macau.
