Judo At The 2008 Summer Olympics – Women's 63 Kg
The women's 63 kg (also known as ''light-middleweight'') tournament in the judo at the 2008 Summer Olympics was held on August 11 at the Beijing Science and Technology University Gymnasium. A total of 25 women competed in this event, limited to jūdōka with a body weight of less than 63 kilograms. Preliminary rounds started at 12:00 Noon CST. Repechage finals, semifinals, bouts for bronze medals and the final were held at 18:00pm CST. This event was the median of the women's judo weight classes, limiting competitors to a maximum of 63 kilograms of body mass. Like all other judo events, bouts lasted five minutes. If the bout was still tied at the end, it was extended for another five-minute, sudden-death period; if neither judoka scored during that period, the match is decided by the judges. The Beijing Science and Technology University Gymnasium () is an indoor arena located on the campus of the University of Science and Technology Beijing. Kahina Saidi ( ar, كهينة سعيدي; born March 17, 1984) is an Algerian judoka, who played for the half-middleweight category. She is a four-time medalist at the African Judo Championships, and a bronze medalist at the 2009 Mediterranean Games in Pescara, Italy. Claudia Heill (24 January 1982 – 31 March 2011) was an Austrian judoka best known for winning the silver medal in the half-middleweight (63 kg) division at the 2004 Summer Olympics. Biography In addition to her success at the 2004 Summer Olympics, Heill won silver medals at the European championship in 2001 and 2005 and bronze medals in 2002, 2003 and 2007. She placed fifth at the 2008 Summer Olympics and retired one year later. After retiring from competition, she began coaching junior judoka. Sarah Clark (born 3 January 1978) is a British judoka, who has competed at three Olympic Games. Judo career Clark came to prominence when winning the Scottish Championships in 1997. In 2000 and 2001 she won back to back half-middleweight British titles at the British Judo Championships.
