Judo At The 1990 Commonwealth Games
Judo at the 1990 Commonwealth Games was the second time (but first official time) that Judo at the Commonwealth Games was included as a sport. It had been held as a demonstration sport four years earlier at the 1986 Commonwealth Games. The sport took place in the East Pavilion at the Auckland Expo Center, with the flooring only just completed in time for competition. Elvis Gordon
Elvis Gordon (23 June 1958 – 11 May 2011) was a Jamaican-born English heavyweight judoka who won numerous medals representing Great Britain. He competed for Great Britain at the 1984, 1988 and 1992 Olympic games. Gordon won silver in the 1987 World Judo Championships, was European champion in 1988, and Commonwealth champion in 1986 and 1990. He retired from competitive judo in 1993, and subsequently competed at the 1994 Sumo World Championships as a wrestler in the heavyweight category. In 2009, he made a brief return to judo, winning silver at the 2009 British Masters Championship in the men's 50–54 years over-100 kg category. James Kendrick was an English physician and antiquary. Life Born in Warrington, which then was in Lancashire, on 7 November 1809, he was the son of the physician James Kendrick (1771–1847). He graduated M.D. at Edinburgh on 1 August 1833, and then built up a large medical practice in Warrington. Kendrick frequently lectured on local topography and history. Graham Fraser Campbell (22 July 1936 – 30 January 2022) was an Australian rules footballer who played 151 games for the Fitzroy Football Club in the Victorian Football League from 1956 until 1964. Playing career In his playing days Campbell was both a rover and half-forward, at his peak in 1957 when he won Fitzroy's Best & Fairest award, the Mitchell Medal. He was a handy and consistent goal-kicker for the Lions, kicking at least 18 goals in all but his first and last season. Although the club had limited success in this era he did play in a Preliminary Final with the club in 1960 and in their Night Premiership side (Pre-season premiership) in 1959.
