Judo At The 2011 Pan Arab Games
At the 2011 Pan Arab Games, the judo events were held at Qatar Sports Club in Doha, Qatar from 10–12 December. A total of 16 events were contested. Medal summary Men Women Doping Two athletes from Judo were caught using performance-enhancing drugs. Gold medalist Safouane Attaf from Morocco in Men's -81 kg and gold medalist Gaballa Mahmoud from Egypt, which was a mistake of his doctor who prescribed a flu medicine which had an extract of a substance included in the doping list, in the Men's -100 kg were caught and stripped of their medals. 2011 Pan Arab Games
The 2011 Pan Arab Games also known as the 12th Pan Arab Games took place in Doha, Qatar from 6 to 23 December 2011. This was the first time that the country had hosted the multi-sport event. Khalifa International Stadium was the main venue for the competition. Preparation Host selection Qatar was awarded rights to organise the games beating Lebanon in the bidding process. Arab Federation for Sports secretary-general Othman Al-Saad said that Qatar's hosting of the Pan-Arab Games would give the event "more momentum and significance in light of the huge capabilities and world-class sports facilities which Qatar owns." Khalifa International Stadium was chosen to be the focal point of the games, hosting the opening ceremonies, while the closing ceremonies were held on Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium. Mohamed El Assri ( ar, محمد العسري; born August 28, 1975) is a Moroccan judoka, who played for the middleweight category. He won a total of five medals (one silver and four bronze) for his division at the African Judo Championships (2004, 2005, 2006, 2008, and 2011). He also captured a silver medal in the 66 kg class at the 2009 Mediterranean Games in Pescara, Italy, losing out to Greece's Ilias Iliadis. Amar Benikhlef (born 11 January 1982) is an Algerian judoka who competed in the middleweight division. He won the silver medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. In September 2021, Benikhlef was suspended for 10 years, until July 2031. Biography After a judoka he coached, Fethi Nourine, was selected to compete at the 2020 Summer Games in the -73 kg weight class, Nourine and Benikhlef each announced Nourine's withdrawal following the conclusion of the draw of competitors. They said the withdrawal was because they were supporting the Palestinian cause by not competing against Israeli Tohar Butbul, a much more accomplished judoka than Nourine and the # 5 seed in the tournament, whom Nourine was drawn to potentially face in the second round, had he won in the first round. The IJF announced his and Nourine's immediate suspensions on 24 July 2021, pending a further investigation, and sent the two of them back home to Algeria from Tokyo.
