Judo At The 2004 Summer Olympics – Men's 100 Kg
Men's +100 kg competition in judo at the 2004 Summer Olympics was held on August 19 at the Ano Liossia Olympic Hall. This event was the heaviest of the men's judo weight classes, allowing competitors with over 100 kilograms of body mass. Like all other judo events, bouts lasted five minutes. If the bout was still tied at the end, it was extended for another five-minute, sudden-death period; if neither judoka scored during that period, the match was decided by the judges. The tournament bracket consisted of a single-elimination contest culminating in a gold medal match. There was also a repechage to determine the winners of the two bronze medals. Each judoka who had lost to a semifinalist competed in the repechage. The two judokas who lost in the semifinals faced the winner of the opposite half of the bracket's repechage in bronze medal bouts. Ano Liossia Olympic Hall
Ano Liosia Olympic Hall is a multi-purpose and multi-sport indoor arena that is located in Ano Liosia, a suburb of Athens, Greece. The arena was mainly used to host various martial arts tournaments but from 2021 its used by AEK B.C. for its home games in the Greek Basket League and the Basketball Champions League. Andrés Alejandro Loforte (born July 25, 1979) is an Argentine judoka, who competed in the men's half-heavyweight category. He held a 2002 Argentine senior title for his own division, picked up a total of fourteen medals in his career, including three bronze from the Pan American Judo Championships, and also represented his nation Argentina at the 2004 Summer Olympics. Loforte qualified for the Argentine squad in the men's half-heavyweight class (100 kg) at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, by placing third and receiving a berth from the Pan American Championships in Margarita Island, Venezuela. Nicolas Gill
Nicolas Gill (born 24 April 1972 in Montreal, Quebec) is a Canadian judoka who competed at four consecutive Olympic Games. He is a two-time Olympic medalist, receiving a bronze in the middleweight (86 kg) division at his inaugural Olympiad in Barcelona. He received a silver medal in the men's half-heavyweight (100 kg) division at the 2000 Sydney Summer Olympics. Gill was honored by his teammates as Canada's flag bearer in the opening ceremony at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. A mild controversy developed after it was revealed that Gill had made comments in favour of Quebec separatism, and had voted 'yes' in the 1995 Quebec referendum. Rhadi Bullard Ferguson (born April 3, 1975) is an American mixed martial arts trainer, strength and conditioning coach, motivational speaker, and black belt in judo and Brazilian jiu-jitsu.
