José Vásquez (judoka)
José Eugenio Vásquez de Jesús (born March 5, 1979, in Santo Domingo) is a judoka from the Dominican Republic, who competed in the men's heavyweight category. He picked up a total of fifteen medals in his career, including a bronze from the 2010 Central American and Caribbean Games in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico, attained a fifth-place finish in the 100-kg division at the 2003 Pan American Games in his native Santo Domingo, and represented his nation Dominican Republic in both 100 and over-100 kg class in two editions of the Olympic Games (2000 and 2004). Career Vasquez made his official debut at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, where he competed in the men's over-100 kg division. He lost his opening match to Kazakhstan's Vyacheslav Berduta, who immediately pushed him down the tatami using the small outer hook ( kosoto gake) to produce an ippon victory inside 37 seconds. The International Judo Federation (IJF) was founded in July 1951. The IJF was originally composed of judo federations from Europe and Argentina. Countries from four continents were affiliated over the next ten years. Today the IJF has 200 National Federations on all continents. Judo At The 2004 Summer Olympics – Men's 100 Kg
Men's 100 kg competition in judo at the 2004 Summer Olympics was held on August 19 at the Ano Liossia Olympic Hall. This event was the second-heaviest of the men's judo weight classes, limiting competitors to a maximum of 100 kilograms of body mass. Like all other judo events, bouts lasted five minutes. If the bout was still tied at the end, it was extended for another five-minute, sudden-death period; if neither judoka scored during that period, the match is decided by the judges. The tournament bracket consisted of a single-elimination contest culminating in a gold medal match. There was also a repechage to determine the winners of the two bronze medals. Each judoka who had lost to a semifinalist competed in the repechage. The two judokas who lost in the semifinals faced the winner of the opposite half of the bracket's repechage in bronze medal bouts.
