Judith Scott (artist)
Judith Scott (May 1, 1943 – March 15, 2005) was an American fiber sculptor, born with Down Syndrome and deaf. She was internationally renowned for her art. Leon Borensztein
Leon Borensztein (born 22 May 1947) is an American photographer whose work reflects long-term and in-depth projects. His areas of focus are in psychological portraiture and documentary. Borensztein has received a Guggenheim Fellowship and his work is included in various public collections. His published books ''Metamorphosis'' (1977, with John MacGregor), ''One is Adam, One is Superman'' (2004) and ''American Portraits'' (2011) document salient moments in the lives of his subjects, and ''Sharon'' (2016) documents every stage of the life of his severely disabled daughter. Life and work Borensztein was born in Poland. He received a BA in creative art and geography from the University of Haifa, Israel in 1974. The 57th Venice Biennale was an international contemporary art exhibition held between May and November 2017. The Venice Biennale takes place biennially in Venice, Italy. Artistic director Christine Macel, the chief curator at the Centre Pompidou, curated its central exhibition, "Viva Arte Viva", as a series of interconnected pavilions designed to reflect art's capacity for expanding humanism. Frieze Art Fair is an international contemporary art fair in London, New York, and Los Angeles. Frieze London takes place every October in London's Regent's Park. In the US, the fair ran on New York's Randall's Island from 2012–19 and in 2021 was held in the Shed at Hudson Yards, with its inaugural Los Angeles edition taking place February 2019. The London edition normally has about 160 exhibitors in Frieze. It is held over four days in a 40,000SqM tent. Outsider Art Fair
The Outsider Art Fair or OAF is an international exhibition that features outsider artists who work in a variety of mediums. It is a biannual fair occurring in New York City and Paris, the former taking place in January and the latter in October. Plans were made for a Basel edition in 2018 to run alongside Art Basel, but has since been postponed until further notice. History The Outsider Art Fair was founded in New York in 1993 by Sanford Smith as a way to help outsider artists exhibit and showcase their work. In 2013 the fair was bought by the art dealer Andrew Edlin through the company Wide Open Arts, LLC. The Outsider Art Fair originated in New York, but under new leadership has been able to expand to Paris, the first edition of which took place in October 2013. Javier Téllez
Javier Téllez is a Venezuelan artist, living and working in New York City. Early life Javier Téllez was born in 1969 in Valencia, Venezuela. Both his mother and father were psychiatrists, thus exposing Téllez to ideas and concepts about mental illness from a young age. His father worked at Bárbula Psychiatric Hospital in Venezuela and would sometimes treat patients with his son in the same room. Téllez has spoken about attending carnivals at the hospital—known for its progressive, alternative treatment methods—where patients and psychiatrists would switch uniforms to symbolically invert their stereotypical, daily roles. This later became influential in his work and inspired his interest in masks and the carnivalesque. In 1911, his grandfather founded one of the first movie theaters in Venezuela. Ike Morgan
Isaac Morgan (June 28, 1871 – September 13, 1913) was a well-known newspaper illustrator for several big newspapers in Chicago and New York. Biography Morgan was labeled "well-educated" by newspaper colleagues. He was fluent in Latin and an aficionado for the theater. He was born in Grand Tower, Illinois, and grew up in St. Louis, where he graduated from the St. Louis School of Fine Arts. Morgan was a good friend and colleague with L. Frank Baum and shared a studio with William Wallace Denslow, both joint creators of ''The Wizard of Oz''. Morgan provided pictures for Baum's ''American Fairy Tales'' (1901), and illustrated ''The Woggle-Bug Book'' (1905). By one account, it was Morgan who introduced L.
