Judith Covington
Judith Lynnette Covington is an American mathematician and mathematics educator who works as a professor of mathematics at Louisiana State University Shreveport (LSUS). Education and career Covington earned her Ph.D. in 1993 at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, with a dissertation in topological group theory jointly supervised by Victor P. Schneider and Bradd Clark, and in the same year joined the LSUS faculty. In the mid-1990s, she became one of the first cohort of fellows of Project NExT, a professional development program of the Mathematical Association of America, and she has continued to be associated with Project NExT as part of its leadership team since then. Beyond her work in teacher education at LSUS, she has also contributed to local mathematics education by founding the North Louisiana Math Teachers' Circle in 2010, and she was elected as the governor of the Louisiana–Mississippi section of the Mathematical Association of America in 2016. Topological Group
In mathematics, topological groups are logically the combination of groups and topological spaces, i.e. they are groups and topological spaces at the same time, such that the continuity condition for the group operations connects these two structures together and consequently they are not independent from each other. Topological groups have been studied extensively in the period of 1925 to 1940. Haar and Weil (respectively in 1933 and 1940) showed that the integrals and Fourier series are special cases of a very wide class of topological groups. Topological groups, along with continuous group actions, are used to study continuous symmetries, which have many applications, for example, in physics. National Ticketing Solution (NTS) is a public transport payment system in development for New Zealand. It is contracted to American company Cubic. It is expected to start roll out in the Canterbury region in 2024 and available nationwide by 2026. It was previously known by various names such as Project NEXT, the National Ticketing Programme (NTP), the Auckland Integrated Ticketing Scheme (AITS) and Auckland Integrated Fares System (AIFS) prior to that. The Deborah and Franklin Tepper Haimo Awards for Distinguished College or University Teaching of Mathematics are awards given by the Mathematical Association of America to recognize college or university teachers "who have been widely recognized as extraordinarily successful and whose teaching effectiveness has been shown to have had influence beyond their own institutions." The Haimo awards are the highest teaching honor bestowed by the MAA. The awards were established in 1993 by Deborah Tepper Haimo and named after Haimo and her husband Franklin Haimo..
