Jubileumspokalen
Jubileumspokalen (literally: The Jubilee Trophy) or Solvallas Jubileumspokal is an annual Group One harness event for trotters that is held at Solvalla in Stockholm, Sweden. Jubileumspokalen has taken place since 1977. In 2008, the purse of the event was approximately US$281,000 (SEK1,750,000). Origin In 1977, Solvalla's 50th Anniversary was celebrated. To commemorate this, the new event Jubileumspokalen was inaugurated. Racing conditions Since the start in 1977, Jubileumspokalen has been almost exclusively over 2,140 meters (1.33 mile). In the years 1980-1982 however, the race was shorter, 1,640-1,660 meters (1.02-1.03 mile). Auto start has been used every year, with the exception of 1981, when volt start was used. In January 2009 it was announced that Jubileumspokalen would be somewhat reformed. The 2009 edition will be the first Jubileumspokalen that is open only for 5-year-olds. Victory Tilly
Victory Tilly (born May 3, 1995) is a Swedish former racing trotter by Quick Pay out of Icora Tilly by Fakir du Vivier. His most prestigious victories include the Swedish Trotting Derby (Swedish: ''Svenskt Travderby''), Elitloppet, Nat Ray Trot and Gran Premio della Lotteria. At the end of his career, the gelding had earned US$5,168,902 (€4,085,814). He was awarded the Swedish Horse of the Year Award in 2000 and 2002. Early years Victory Tilly was born on May 3, 1995, in Almunge, Uppsala municipality, Sweden. He spent his years as a colt at his breeder's, Stall Tilly. Glen Norman was in charge of the training of the stable's race horses and was Victory Tilly's trainer in the horse's early years. Varenne
Varenne (foaled in Copparo, Italy, 19 May 1995) is a dark bay racing trotter by Waikiki Beach out of Ialmaz by Zebu. Varenne is considered to be the best trotter of all time. No other trotter has won so many of the most important races in the world and set as many records as Varenne. Overview According to several veterinarians, Varenne would never race due to a leg malformation. His first owner bought him for $6000, but because of his perceived handicap (chip) sold him after the first race, considering him to have no future as a race horse. Varenne won 62 races (53 GPs-major races) at 11 distances (from 0,99 mile to 1,708 miles), while finishing second six times and third twice from 73 career starts. Nuncio (foaled in Hanover, Pennsylvania, 17 April 2011) is a dark racing trotter by Andover Hall out of Nicole Isabelle by Lindy Lane. Nuncio is owned and trained by Stefan Melander at Åby-Farm, Enköping, Sweden. With Swedish driver Örjan Kihlström, Nuncio won the most prestigious harness race in Scandinavia, the Swedish Elitloppet at Solvalla, on the 29th day of May, 2016, carrying a 3 million Swedish kronor ($360.000) first prize purse. Solvalla
Solvalla is a horse racing track located in Bromma, Stockholm, Sweden. It opened in 1927 and is the largest harness racing venue in the Nordic countries. The last Sunday in May, Solvalla annually hosts Elitloppet, one of the most prestigious international trotting events in the world. Bertil Stefan Melander (born 23 November 1957 in Spånga, Stockholm County) is a Swedish harness racing horse trainer and driver based at Åby-Farm in Enköping, Sweden. Among the horses he has trained are top trotters Scarlet Knight, Iceland, Gigant Neo and Nuncio. Together with these and other horses, Melander has won numerous major races, including Elitloppet (two times), Hambletonian Stakes (once) and Prix d'Amérique (once). Group One, Group 1, Grade I or G1 is the term used for the highest level of Thoroughbred and Standardbred stakes races in many countries. In Europe, the level of races for Thoroughbred racing is determined using the Pattern races, Pattern race system introduced in 1971 and monitored by the European Pattern Committee.
