Juan Carlos Rodríguez Patiño (born August 14, 1990) is a Venezuelan professional boxer. As an amateur, he won a bronze medal at the 2011 Pan American Games. He was considered a top amateur boxer at middleweight in Venezuela. Amateur career In 2011 Rodríguez won a silver medal in first Pan American Games Qualifier at middleweight. Cumaná () is the capital city of Venezuela's Sucre State. It is located east of Caracas. Amateur boxing is a variant of boxing practiced at the collegiate level, at the Olympic Games, Pan American Games and Commonwealth Games, as well as many associations. Amateur boxing bouts are short in duration, comprising three rounds of three minutes in men, and four rounds of two minutes in women, each with a one-minute interval between rounds. Men's senior bouts changed in format from four two-minute rounds to three three-minute rounds on January 1, 2009. The 2011 Pan American Games, officially the XVI Pan American Games, was an international multi-sport event that was held from October 14–30, 2011, in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. Some events were held in the nearby cities of Ciudad Guzmán, Puerto Vallarta, Lagos de Moreno and Tapalpa. Boxing At The 2011 Pan American Games – Middleweight
The men's middleweight competition of the boxing events at the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico, was held between October 21 and 28 at the Expo Guadalajara Arena. The defending champion was Emilio Correa from Cuba. Middleweights were limited to those boxers weighing less than or equal to 75 kilograms. Like all Pan American boxing events, the competition was a straight single-elimination tournament. Both semifinal losers were awarded bronze medals, so no boxers competed again after their first loss. Bouts consisted of four rounds of two minutes each, with one-minute breaks between rounds. Punches scored only if the white area on the front of the glove made full contact with the front of the head or torso of the opponent.
