João Martins (footballer, Born 1927)
João Baptista Martins (3 September 1927 – 16 November 1993) was a Portuguese footballer who played as a striker. Club career Born in Sines, Setúbal District, Martins signed with Sporting CP at the age of 19 for 100 escudos, after leaving G.D. CUF as the works team did not find him an occupation as originally promised. In his 13-year tenure in Lisbon, he won seven Primeira Liga championships and the 1954 Taça de Portugal. In the 1953–54 season, Martins scored 31 times in 23 matches for the champions. On 4 September 1955, he scored the first-ever goal in the history of the European Cup, opening a 3–3 home draw against FK Partizan at the Estádio Nacional. Martins was deployed in every attacking position during his spell with Sporting. The scorer of 258 competitive goals, he was also used as a makeshift goalkeeper in a game against Clube Oriental de Lisboa. João Carlos Gandra da Silva Martins (); born June 25, 1940, in Sao Paulo, Brazil) is an acclaimed Brazilian classical pianist and conductor, who has performed with leading orchestras in the United States, Europe and Brazil. He is celebrated as a great interpreter of Bach and has recorded his complete keyboard works. For decades Martins has been engaged as the leading pianist at the Boston Symphony, the Los Angeles Philharmonic and other ensembles. The New York Times wrote, "Maestro Martins has lived a life of renown, challenge, tenacity and triumph sufficient to fill a lively memoir". After his career as a concert pianist was derailed by injuries and accidents, he successfully reinvented himself as a conductor, leading hundreds of performances worldwide including acclaimed concerts at Carnegie Hall. João Paulo Neto Martins (born 30 June 1988) is a Portuguese former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. Club career Born in Oliveira do Hospital, Coimbra District, Martins played most of his youth football with Sporting CP, having arrived at the club's academy in 2000 at the age of 12. From 2007 to 2009 he would be loaned to three teams, C.D. Olivais e Moscavide and Atlético Clube de Portugal in the third division and S.C. Olhanense in the second (one league match during the entire season for the latter side). Released by Sporting in summer 2009, Martins resumed his career mainly in the third tier. He returned to division two in the 2012–13 campaign, signing for Associação Naval 1º de Maio. International career All youth levels comprised, Martins won 50 caps for Portugal and scored three goals. João Cleófas Martins
João Cleofas Martins, his nickname Djunga Fotógrafo (28 August 1901 in the island of São Vicente–27 August 1970 in Mindelo, São Vicente) was a Cape Verdean photographer and author. Biography He was born in the island of Sāo Vicente, just shortly after Sergio Frusoni. His father came from the island of Brava and he lived most of his life in Mindelo on the island of São Vicente. He was one of a few Cape Verdean authors who criticized the government of the second Republic of Portugal. He worked at the Western Telegraph Company (now Western Union), he went to Lisbon in 1928 and took part in photography. He founded "Foto Progresso" in Mindelo back home in 1931. He had taken pictures mainly around the island, one of the most important photos was Lajinha taken in 1938. He dedicated all of his life to the children's home at the olAlbergue de S.
