Jozua Naudé (pastor)
Jozua Francois Naudé (20 March 1873 – 28 August 1948) was a South African pastor, school founder and co-founder of the Afrikaner Broederbond. Roots Naudé was born on 20 March 1873 in Middelburg Cape Province South Africa. His parents were Jozua Francois Naudé and Louisa van den Berg. He married Adriana Johanna Zondagh van Huyssteen. They had 8 children. He died on 28 August 1948 in Johannesburg, Transvaal, South Africa. Education Naudé studied education at Stellenbosch University. After the Anglo Boer War he completed his studies in Theology at Stellenbosch University. Career He was a pastor at Aliwal North, Roodepoort, Piet Retief and Graaf-Reinet. While pastor he was member of the Council of Churches. He was involved in the Transvaal Synod. He was Secretary of the Transvaal Synod. Graaff-Reinet is a town in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa. It is the oldest town in the province. Christian Frederick Beyers
Christiaan Frederik Beyers (23 September 1869 – 8 December 1914) was a Boer general during the Second Boer War. Biography As a young man, he went to the South African Republic, Transvaal, where he took a prominent part on the Boer side in the Second Boer War, South African War, winning high distinction in the field and bearing the rank of general when peace was made in 1902. Beyers had much influence, as soldier and statesman, among the Afrikaaners, Dutch-speaking people of South Africa, and was, with Generals Louis Botha, Botha and Jan Smuts, Smuts, though in a less degree than they, one of the recognized leaders of the Transvaal Boers. Christiaan Frederick Beyers Naudé (10 May 1915 – 7 September 2004) was a South African Afrikaner Calvinist Dominee, theologian and the leading Afrikaner anti-apartheid activist. He was known simply as Beyers Naudé, or more colloquially, ''Oom Bey'' (Afrikaans for "Uncle Bey"). Early life and education One of eight children, Beyers Naudé was born to Jozua François Naudé and Adriana Johanna Naudé (née) van Huyssteen in Roodepoort, Transvaal (now Gauteng). The progenitor of the Naudé name was a French Huguenot refugee named Jacques Naudé who arrived in the Cape in 1718.. Henning Klopper
Henning Johannes Klopper (1895–1985) was a South African politician who served as Speaker of the National Assembly, and the first chairman of the Afrikaner Broederbond. He is known for promoting Afrikaans and fighting White Afrikaner poverty in South Africa. Roots Klopper was born on 17 January 1895 in Heilbron, Orange Free State. He was the son of Hendrik Belthasar Louis Klopper and Christina Catharina Johanna van Aswegen. After his schooling in Parys, at age 16 he joined the South African Railways and Harbours. He married Maria Alberta Cecilia Naudé. He died on 20 November 1985. Piet Retief, officially eMkhondo, is a town situated in a timber-growing region in Mpumalanga province, South Africa. It is the seat of the Mkhondo Local Municipality. It is located not far from the Eswatini border. History The town was founded by the Voortrekkers in 1883 and named it after the Voortrekker leader, Piet Retief, who was killed by the Zulus under their King Dingane's orders, after a negotiation for land failed. In 1886, the inhabitants of the town declared the '' Klein Vrystaat'' (''Little Free State''), which contained a population of only 72. This republic existed until 1891, when it was incorporated into the South African Republic. The town became a municipality in 1932. Roodepoort is a town in the Gauteng province of South Africa. Aliwal North
Aliwal North (officially Maletswai) is a town in central South Africa on the banks of the Orange River, Eastern Cape Province. It is a medium-sized commercial centre in the northernmost part of the Eastern Cape. History Sir Harry Smith, then Governor of the Cape Colony, formally founded the small town of Aliwal North in the Cape Province of South Africa in 1850. He named the town "Aliwal North" in memory of his victory over the Sikhs at the Battle of Aliwal during the First Sikh War in India in 1846. The town was laid out in 1849 on ground acquired by the government. This was auctioned and 38 lots were sold for £972. The park in the centre of Aliwal North, the Juana Square Gardens was named after Smith's wife Juana Maria de Los Dolores de Leon.
