Journey To Work
Journey to work is data collected as part of a census that describes aspects of commuting behaviour. Travel survey, Travel behaviour surveys may also describe commuting habits, but this is rarely considered to be a journey to work. Data collected includes the mode of transport, mode (or modes) used by an individual to travel from home to work, and may also include the time that it takes to do so or the workplace location. Census
A census is the procedure of systematically acquiring, recording and calculating information about the members of a given population. This term is used mostly in connection with national population and housing censuses; other common censuses include censuses of agriculture, traditional culture, business, supplies, and traffic censuses. A travel survey (or travel diary or travel behavior inventory) is a survey of individual travel behavior. Most surveys collect information about an individual (socio-economic, demographic, etc.), their household (size, structure, relationships), and a diary of their journeys on a given day (their start and end location, start and end time, mode of travel, accompaniment and purpose of travel). Major travel surveys are conducted in metropolitan areas typically once a decade. A travel to work area or TTWA is a statistical tool used by UK Government agencies and local authorities, especially by the Department for Work and Pensions and Jobcentres, to indicate an area where the population would generally commute to a larger town, city or conurbation for the purposes of employment. Significance As a measure based on urban areas and their commuter hinterland they are a form of metropolitan area, though as methods of calculation differ they cannot directly be compared with other specific measurements such as metropolitan statistical areas in the United States.
