Journey To The Center Of The Earth (1993 Film)
''Journey to the Center of the Earth'' is a 1993 TV film first aired on NBC. It stars Carel Struycken, Tim Russ, and Jeffrey Nordling, John Neville (actor), John Neville, F. Murray Abraham, Fabiana Udenio, and Kim Miyori. A TV series was originally planned after its release but it was cancelled. The film is based on the 1864 novel Journey to the Center of the Earth, of the same name by Jules Verne. The film premiered on NBC in United States, while the film was released theatrically in other territories by Columbia Pictures. Plot A team of explorers sets on a voyage to the Earth's core, following an earlier attempt years before. Their ship, ''Avenger'', enters the lava chamber of an active volcano and uses an energy ray called a "sonic blaster" to blast through the flow. They enter in a subterranean world over 100 kilometers below the Earth's surface. The place is filled with many strange creatures. ''Journey to the Center of the Earth'' (french: Voyage au centre de la Terre), also translated with the variant titles ''A Journey to the Centre of the Earth'' and ''A Journey into the Interior of the Earth'', is a classic science fiction novel by Jules Verne. It was first published in French in 1864, then reissued in 1867 in a revised and expanded edition. Professor Otto Lidenbrock is the tale's central figure, an eccentric German scientist who believes there are volcanic tubes that reach to the very center of the earth. He, his nephew Axel, and their Icelandic guide Hans rappel into Iceland's celebrated inactive volcano Snæfellsjökull, then contend with many dangers, including cave-ins, subpolar tornadoes, an underground ocean, and living prehistoric creatures from the Mesozoic and Cenozoic eras (the 1867 revised edition inserted additional prehistoric material in Chaps. 37–39). Kim Miyori (born Cheryl Utsunomiya; January 4, 1951) is an American actress, best known for the role of Dr. Wendy Armstrong, a beleaguered resident, on the first two seasons (1982–1984) of the medical drama '' St. Elsewhere''.
