''Journey to Happiness'' (German: ''Fahrt ins Glück'') is a 1948 German romantic drama film directed by Erich Engel and starring Käthe Dorsch, Rudolf Forster and Hildegard Knef. It was made at the Babelsberg Studios in Berlin while location shooting took place around the Attersee (lake) in Austria.The film's sets were designed by the art director Erich Kettelhut. It was one of a significant number of films produced during Nazi Germany but not released until after the fall of the Nazi regime. Erich Engel
Erich Gustav Otto Engel (14 February 1891 – 10 May 1966) was a German film and theatre director.He is often confused with another German film director called Erich Engels, who specialised in comedy, and crime films. Biography Engel was born in Hamburg, where later he studied at the School of Applied Arts. After finishing there he worked briefly as a journalist, then learnt acting at the Thalia Theatre in Hamburg, after which he spent several years with a touring theatre company. In 1917 and 1918 Engel was the dramaturgist in the ''Deutsches Schauspielhaus'', and later in the ''Hamburger Kammerspiele''. After a short engagement with the '' Bayerische Staatstheater'' in Munich he moved in 1924 to Berlin. At the '' Deutsche Theater'' he produced, among other pieces, Bertolt Brecht's '' Im Dickicht der Städte'' and soon became one of the foremost interpreters of Brecht's works on the German stage. Attersee (lake)
Attersee, also known as Kammersee, English sometimes Lake Atter, is the largest lake of the Salzkammergut region in the Austrian state of Upper Austria. It is Austria's third largest lake by area, surpassed only by Lake Constance and Lake Neusiedl, which, however, both extend beyond national borders. Geography The surface area extends for about from north to south and from east to west. With an average depth of , its water volume even surpasses the Chiemsee, which is larger by area. Hedwig Wangel (1875–1961) was a German stage and film actress. Life and career Born as Amalie Pauline Hedwig Simon on September 23, 1875, in Berlin in the German Empire, Hedwig Wangel was the daughter of a music publisher. After studying acting with Max Grube, she made her theatrical debut in 1893 in ''Urania''. Following performances for the remainder of the decade in theaters across Germany, during which she was a member of Max Reinhardt's Deutsches Theater, she then toured England during 1901 and 1902 and the Netherlands during 1902 and 1903, when she retired suddenly, began to provide care for homeless men and women, and assisted the Salvation Army and the Berliner Prisoner Association. Werner Fuetterer
Werner Fuetterer (10 January 1907 in Barth, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern – 7 February 1991 in Benidorm, Province of Alicante, Spain) was a German film actor. He appeared in nearly 100 films between 1925 and 1967. In his early film career, Fuetterer often played young romantic lovers, but never managed the breakthrough to stardom. He later turned to character and supporting roles, often as the main characters best friend. Fuetterer remains perhaps best known for his role as the Archangel in F. W. Murnau's silent film classic ''Faust'' (1926). He later retired from acting and managed a camping facility in Spain, where he died in 1991 at age 84.
