Journal Square
Journal Square is a business district, residential area, and transportation hub in Jersey City, New Jersey. It is named for the newspaper ''Jersey Journal'', whose headquarters were located there from 1911 to 2013. The "square" itself is at the intersection of County Route 501 (New Jersey), Kennedy Boulevard and Bergen-Lafayette, Jersey City, Bergen Avenue. The broader area extends to and includes Bergen Square, McGinley Square, India Square, the Five Corners, Jersey City, Five Corners and parts of the Marion Section. Van Wagenen House
The Van Wagenen House, also known as Apple Tree House, is located near Bergen Square in Jersey City, New Jersey, Jersey City, Hudson County, New Jersey, Hudson County, New Jersey, United States. The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places on August 16, 2006. It is home to the Museum of Jersey City History. History The house was owned by the Van Wagenen Family and built in 1740 with an addition added in the 1820s. The house has long claimed to be the site of a lunch meeting between George Washington and the Gilbert du Motier, marquis de Lafayette, Marquis de Lafayette in August of 1779 where they discussed war strategy underneath the shade of an apple tree in the front yard of the property. Newkirk House
The Newkirk House, also known as the Summit House, located at 510 Summit Avenue is the oldest surviving structure in Jersey City, New Jersey. The two-story Dutch Colonial building, composed of sandstone, brick, and clapboard dates to 1690. Originally one story, the outer walls are two feet of stone fitted in lime and mortar. Beams of timber in the basement are six-by-twelve inches and those on the second floor are four-by-six inches spaced four-feet apart. Eight-inch wood pegs, rather than nails, were employed during the time of construction. The building, currently empty, is the object of preservation efforts. 26 Journal Square is a high-rise in Jersey City, Hudson County, New Jersey, United States. It was originally known as the Labor Bank Building. It was completed in 1928 and has 15 floors. As of 2009, it was the 23rd tallest building in the city. It is often considered the first skyscraper in Jersey City. The Beaux Arts building was designed by John T. Rowland. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on June 14, 1984, for its significance in architecture and commerce. With The building was originally headquarters of the Labor National Bank. The bank was affiliated with the Branleygran Company, and established by Theodore M. Brandle, a "labor czar" allied with Mayor of Jersey City Frank Hague. Hague channeled construction projects towards the construction bond underwriter, including the Pulaski Skyway. The Port Authority Trans-Hudson (PATH) is a rapid transit system in the northeastern New Jersey cities of Newark, Harrison, Jersey City, and Hoboken, as well as Lower and Midtown Manhattan in New York City. Bergen, New Netherland
Bergen was a part of the 17th century province of New Netherland, in the area in Gateway Region, northeastern New Jersey along the Hudson River, Hudson and Hackensack River, Hackensack Rivers that would become contemporary Hudson County, New Jersey, Hudson and Bergen County, New Jersey, Bergen Counties.
