José María Alonso
José María Alonso de Areyzaga (24 March 1890 – 4 March 1979) was a Spanish male tennis player. He competed in the Tennis at the 1920 Summer Olympics – Men's singles, singles event at the 1920 Summer Olympics in which he lost in the first round to Ichiya Kumagae. With his brother Manuel Alonso Areizaga, Manuel Alonso he competed in the Tennis at the 1924 Summer Olympics – Men's doubles, men's doubles event at the 1924 Summer Olympics and reached the quarterfinal. With his brother he reached the quarterfinal of the doubles event at the 1924 Wimbledon Championships. The 1924 Summer Olympics (french: Jeux olympiques d'été de 1924), officially the Games of the VIII Olympiad (french: Jeux de la VIIIe olympiade) and also known as Paris 1924, were an international multi-sport event held in Paris, France. The opening ceremony was held on 5 July, but some competitions had already started on 4 May. The Games were the second to be hosted by Paris (after 1900), making it the first city to host the Olympics twice. The selection process for the 1924 Summer Olympics consisted of six bids, and Paris was selected ahead of Amsterdam, Barcelona, Los Angeles, Prague, and Rome. Manuel Alonso Areizaga
Manuel Alonso de Areizaga (12 November 1895 – 11 October 1984) was a Spanish tennis player. He was the first Spanish tennis player of international stature. Biography Alonso was born at San Sebastián on 12 November 1895. He won the Spanish tennis championships in 1915, 1919 and 1920. He frequently played doubles with his elder brother José María (b. 1890) who also was a successful tennis player. In 1920, Alonso took part at the Summer Olympics at Antwerp. In singles, he reached the quarterfinals losing to British Noel Turnbull. In the same year, Alonso reached the semifinals at the World Hard Court Championships. At the 1924 Summer Olympics at Paris, Alonso reached the fourth round in singles.
