José Hernández (pitcher)
José Ernesto Hernández (born December 31, 1997) is a Dominican professional baseball pitcher in the Los Angeles Dodgers organization. He has previously played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Early life Hernández is from Puerto Plata, where he grew up playing baseball and basketball. Career Los Angeles Dodgers On May 12, 2016, the Los Angeles Dodgers signed Hernández as an international free agent. He made his professional debut with the Dominican Summer League Dodgers. Returning to the DSL Dodgers in 2017, he recorded a 6–2 record and 2.52 ERA with 55 strikeouts in innings pitched across 15 appearances (14 starts). For the 2018 season, he played with the rookie-level Arizona League Dodgers, registering a 2–1 record and 2.96 ERA with 38 strikeouts in innings pitched over 15 games. Designated for assignment (DFA) is a contractual term used in Major League Baseball (MLB). A player who is designated for assignment is immediately removed from the team's 40-man roster, after which the team must within seven days, return the player to the 40-man roster, place the player on waivers, trade the player, release the player, or outright the player from the 40-man roster into Minor League Baseball. Governance MLB player transactions are governed by ''The Official Professional Baseball Rules Book''. The club's home ballpark is LoanDepot Park. The franchise began play as an expansion team in the 1993 season as the Florida Marlins. In baseball, a save (abbreviated SV or S) is credited to a pitcher who finishes a game for the winning team under certain prescribed circumstances. Most commonly a pitcher earns a save by entering in the ninth inning of a game in which his team is winning by three or fewer runs and finishing the game by pitching one inning without losing the lead. The number of saves or percentage of save opportunities successfully converted are oft-cited statistics of relief pitchers, particularly those in the closer role.
