José Antonio Fernández De Castro
José Antonio Fernández de Castro (January 18, 1887 in Havana – July 30, 1951 in Havana) was a notable Cuban journalist and writer active in the first part of the 20th century. In 1917 he graduated with a law degree from the University of Havana. Long interested in journalism and historical investigation, he worked with the newspapers ''El Fígaro'' and ''La Nación''. He directed the literary page of ''Diario de la Marina'' from 1927 to 1929, using it as a platform to support the contemporary Spanish avant-garde literary movements, often called the ''vanguardia''. He collaborated on a number of anti-imperialist publications such as ''Venezuela Libre'' and ''América Libre'', and later became involved in Communist activities. He was, for example, one of the first Cuban writers to study the poetry of the October Revolution. He served as a diplomat between 1934 and 1944. He died on July 30, 1951, in his native Havana. José Miguel Fernández (born April 27, 1988) is a Cuban professional baseball infielder for the Saraperos de Saltillo of the Mexican League. He previously played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Los Angeles Angels, in the KBO League for the Doosan Bears, and for the Cuban national baseball team at the 2013 World Baseball Classic (WBC). José Luis Álvaro Alvino Fernández Madrid (February 19, 1789 – June 28, 1830) was a Neogranadine statesman, physician, scientist and writer, who was President of the interim triumvirate of the United Provinces of New Granada in 1814, and President of the United Provinces of the New Granada in 1816. After the Spanish retook New Granada, he was barred from the country and was exiled in Havana, where he continued his scientific studies and worked as a doctor. He was later pardoned and allowed to come back to Colombia, and was appointed ambassador to France and to the United Kingdom where he died in 1830. José Ramón Fernández Álvarez (November 4, 1923 – January 6, 2019) was a Cuban Communist leader who was a vice-president of the Council of Ministers. Pre-Revolution life Fernández Alvarez was born in Santiago de Cuba, where he studied his first and second education. In 1947 he graduated from the Cadet School of Cuba and also from the Artillery School as well as from other courses of the General Staff in Cuba and at Fort Sill in the USA. From March 10, 1952, he took part in different conspiracy activities and movements against Fulgencio Batista's tyranny with different military and political groups, until 1956 when he was caught when the conspiracy movement called "Los puros" was discovered.
